Hi,
We have a combi boiler with a manual digital thermostat currently.
I am trying to see if i can save some money with a smart one, so when i am in work i can control it from coming on when there is no one in the house.
Are they east to install, and can anyone recommend one if so, as i have seen Hive are popular.
Thanks

They're really easily installed - you just replace the existing thermostat or relay and there might be a bridge to connect to the Internet with a simple app setup. I've been pretty happy with my Netatmo thermostat, but I'd probably buy a different brand now as I am unsure of the longevity of the system or what would happen if they 'retire' it.1

I have a baxi combi and the main i presume wired unit is next to it, while the wireless controller is in the kitchen to control the temperature. I have been looking at the Google nest which looks straight forward to install, but i dont want the controller in the toilet as it defeats some sort of object.

I did have the google nest at my last property and it was simple to use, I don't know about fitting as my son did that.
I'm considering the Tado this time as i can fit it, replaces the one on the wall. it is on offer at some energy suppliers1 -

Do you have the dial thermostat on the wall, I think it's just a case of switching the two.
There is a difference between the Google and the Tado in as much as when you leave and return home google controls kick in automatically where Tado you either have to subscribe or do it manually1 -

Need to look more into this if thats the case then0 -
I've got the full Tado system, with independent heating control for each room, the basic kit was a freebie from Eon, and a sub contractor connected it to the boiler, but it's so easy I'd have done it myself if I needed to, all the wiring info' is supplied by Tado.1

p.s. Drayton Wiser is another control system worth looking at.1 -

I believe that may be Opentherm compatible (check with Baxi), if so you want an Opentherm compatible controller (so not Hive or the original Netatmo Smart Thermostat) to maximise operating efficiency via modulation.
If you already have a Drayton controller then the chances are that it uses the standard backplate so a swap to a Drayton Wiser system (which is Opentherm compatible) should be easy.

p.s. the current UK wireless version of Tado doesn't support Opentherm/modulation but the wired version does (it's a crazy situation- the older wireless version did too)
