    looks interesting...!
    Can anyone advise about it?
    MSE IS AN ADDICTION
  • I don't know, but £300 is a lot of money to pay.

I would try searching google for anyone who has had experience of this.

I would also look very carefully at what you get for your money, and if you can get the same free or cheaper else where. Many web site, even the ones that look good, sell things you can get for free from other web site.

Agree with the above advice. Additionally, regardless of the quality/cost of this package, it seems highly unlikely that one would find work without formal qualifications and/or experience. My BIL is a small business owner (just one shop) and is just starting out in his business but there is no way he would employ someone unqualified to do the job . Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear...

What about trying your local FE college for a 'proper' accredited course - you might be pleasantly surprised at what is on offer, often at no or low cost to the student. I used to work in FE and it was a reliable route back to work or self-employment for many and the grants available meant that most people didn't pay fees. Also you could trake advantage of careers advice rather than rely on what the writers of this website would lead you to believe through its dubious FAQs.

    Good luck xx
  • Thanks for advice, I should have said I will have qualifications by June but don't know where to even start bout setting up in business myself, so thought this would be helpful. Saying that it is a lot of money to invest. If anyone has any ideas how to get started in a cheaper way, it would be much appreciated.

  • I would definitely look carefully about what this course offers you as annie-c has said below, that would help you deicde whether is it worthwhile or not.

Although I must say I paid for a home book-keeping course in 2001 whit ICS and the cost was just over £400 (albeit I didn't complete it), however, saying that I have decided to do another one with a different company but it is computerised and obviously costs more but you get a recognised certificate at the end, and they provide you with agencies where clients are looking for book-keepers.

You could always try it part time and if it pays off increase your portfolio until you are eventually full-time.

I used to work with someone who did the book-keeping course and she had to give up her secular job and is doing really well.

Hope it works out for you!

How about starting with local firms. Offer to go to their premises and do their books for them. It may be a couple of hours per week, or month depending on the firm. But people would prefer to deal with someone they can easily contact and get to see in person.

Look in your local papers to see if people are wanting part time bookkeepers, or even if others are offering bookkeeping services. if they are find out how much they are charging.
  • Thanks for that, think I will try the local newspapers. I really want to work from home though due to having 2 young kids, so the local firms not an option at the mo. But it is also a very good idea.

Reason started thread was that in order to get started with a package for getting set up with software/clients & this seems to be offering everything. But am very wary it is too good to be true!! But on the other hand I would still need to pay out for software to put people's books on so just thought maybe get everything for one price at one time. But will try to find out further if anyone has used this company & is successful.

It may still work. Thinking of one man operations such as plumbers etc. Most of them "work from home" so they may be willing to drop their stuff off at your house and collect another day.

I hope your qualifications will be at least AAT? That's the bottom level 'proper' qualification.
Anything else you'll be lucky to get enough regular work
  • I'm in the same boat! I'm also looking for part-time work in bookkeeping and don't know where to start! Advise from other bookkeepers would be fantastic!

My qualification is OCR certificate in bookkeeping and OCR certificate in Accounts. These were £450+ each at my local college and we were told equivilent to AAT level 1. Those who wish to go further in their studies can go straight into AAT level 2 when the course starts.
Surely this is still a recognised qualification?
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!
