Help with M&S refund

The OP says 'an item of clothing'.
In M&S T&Cs 'What can I return? Exceptions' a number of items of clothing are listed which cannot be returned to store, only returned by post in their original packaging.
They include bridesmaid's dresses, maternity clothing and 'any other products as notified at the time'.
If the OP's item of clothing falls in this category they would not have been able to return it in store, however many days ago it was bought.

Looking online apparently each item now has a unique code so they can tell when it was bought and for how much.

If it’s a gift why won’t they exchange the item or give a credit does anyone know? Ive complained and they won’t budge. Thank you.cherokee said:DullGreyGuy said:cherokee said:Hi. If its because its faulty the answer is very different to if the gift recipient just didn't like it or it didn't fit etc
Are you asking (1) whether you can still return something outside the 35 day return time limit, or (2) whether you can return a gift item without a receipt?
If (1) then no, you can't do so unless they allow you to. They put a 35 day limit on their returns policy so if you are over 35 days they can refuse you.
If (2) it appears you can do so and you will get get a "credit receipt" at the most recent price, valid for 12 months. But I presume you would still need to return it within 35 days.
