Haggle with Virgin Media during price hikes

Just wanted to mention I got an email from Virgin Media today to say they're raising prices. My broadband was due to go up £7 a month. I would have switched if necessary but would rather not (VM are the only fibre provider in my area and line rental around here is very slow).

So I just popped onto the live chat and am now paying £9 a month less than I was before. I had to wait a while to speak to someone but if you're on your computer for work anyway just leave the page open.

It's very clearly worth it if you don't want to move and so easy. So don't just put up with the price hikes – use them as an opportunity to get a better deal!

Just wanted to share my experience in case it helps others.

My contract ends this month so I was on live chat with Virgin for 2.5 hours today and managed to get the Gig1 broadband for the same price as a new customer - £40 a month,  my current package of 250meg BB, phone + tv is £52, would go up to £67 if not changed.  We never watch virgin tv or use the landline so it was a no brainer.
