Landline telephone

I'm in a similar situation. My elderly parents are moving soon. They currently have a landline with Talktalk (who for some reason recently sent them an unsolicited ethernet cable) When I was recently helping my parents with some financial issues, I discovered they were paying nearly £50 a month just for the phone line and calls. So I'm inclined to try and persuade them to change provider as Talktalk has had quite enough money from them.0

If all you want is a phone have you considered something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lychee-Wireless-Classic-Fixed-Phone/dp/B08CZBFRBF/ref=asc_df_B08CZBFRBF/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=463073066297&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12630346502944366263&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007079&hvtargid=pla-952179799183&psc=1
add an appropriate sim and it’ll be far cheaper than a landline.0 -
But if you have a land-line number you wish to keep, then it is no use. Until you are able to port a land-line number to a mobile contract (I doubt it will ever happen) you might as well have a cheap £10 mobile instead of that0

After some digging around I found this article. Apparently BT, along with the company that runs the phonelines in the Hull area, have to provide a landline only option.
