Replacing a hob

SadieO said:So...fun times. Talked to my joiner chap who advised me that legally it needs to be a qualified electrician that installs hobs. It's not like the police are gonna come knocking and plenty of people do their own, but technically not allowed. So I thought I'd better do it by the book and found a couple of hobs on AO that had offers for free/half price installation. Except when I started to order, it asked me if I have a big red switch by the cooker. I don't (and it's not a plug either, the wire just goes straight into the wall) and when I answered "no" AO told me I couldn't have installation. So, back to the drawing board I guess.
I wonder if that was legal
( Same idiot manged to run the kitchen waste pipe into the rainwater drain despite the fact that the two grids are next door to each other which displeased the water board when they discovered this)0
