@SpudGunPaul
I don't believe I have heard of civilians working on the 'crime desk' for over a decade now, but of course I can only really comment on my local force since I don't have knowledge of them all.
I'm sure whomever the OP manages to contact they will get their crime number easily enough."a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."1 -

Have you tried using the jeff@amazon.com address to complain about the situation?
I did when a completely wrong item was delivered (expensive item). Having heard some yukky stories on here about what can happen with arguments with normal amazon customer services and difficulties returning a wrong item (with amazon expecting the item that should have been delivered), I expected difficulties. But had none at all. I did send clear photos of what turned up.and parcel was completely unopened. I was actually very pleased with how Amazon handled it.
I'd suggest trying that email address. I often get better service that way when amazon's normal customer service seem to be sending 'delay' scripted replies that don't even apply to the situation.0 -
Your not the victim, they stole from Amazon as you've not taken possession of the item. How did you? You could claim on your card.0
