Getting a police report online for Amazon

Hi
hopefully someone can help. I received a package yesterday from amazon and the item was missing from one of the boxes. It’s an £80 item. Got in touch with Amazon who said they need a police report number to process a refund or replacement.

I don’t want to drive all the way to my nearest police station which is ages away due to majority of police stations closing in my area… for the police to say it’s not really their problem. So I’m wondering can I do it online or anything?

If you need a crime reference number you have no choice but to go to the police station

You can ring 101 and ask to report a theft, they'll likely give you a diary appointment at a later date/time and at that point they'll give you a crime number or yes, you can normally report crime on your local force website, there should be an online form. Again, they'll likely have someone recontact you and offer a diary appointment to discuss."a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."2

That’s not true in this day and age you can use a telephone or report it online.marcia_ said:If you need a crime reference number you have no choice but to go to the police station0 -
More likely they’ll crime it over the phone and file it. It’s unknown where the offence took place.superstylin said:You can ring 101 and ask to report a theft, they'll likely give you a diary appointment at a later date/time and at that point they'll give you a crime number or yes, you can normally report crime on your local force website, there should be an online form. Not if you want a written report to send off to someone else you can'tSpudGunPaul said:

I'm assuming the box was sealed and no sign of it being tampered with? In which case it is more likely to be an Amazon warehouse person than the courier.grimmyth said:Hi

If you go to this website, you can then use the map to pinpoint your location, then it will tell you which police force to report it to and you can then either phone them or report it online:

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
You won't get that by going into a police station.marcia_ said:

If the OP uses the phone 101 goes to the local force. The problem is it's unknown where the offence occurred.pinkshoes said:

If they don't know where it took place then they'll record it on the victim's address. A call taker may create the crime but it'll only be populated on speaking to a police officer via a diary appointment. Then yes it'll more than likely be closed without investigation. But the OP only wants the crime number anyway so that suits.SpudGunPaul said:

Not in every case, crime desks are staffed by civilians who can create a crime, give the victim a crime number then file it without it ever seeing a police officer.superstylin said:

Recording at the victims home address is one to ensure there is no lines of enquiry as we know it didn't happen there.0
