couldn't agree more, but if you dont know what is using it and you dont monitor it then you can't reduce your consumption and therefore reduce your bills.Scot_39 said:matelodave said:Why are we talking about ironing - its really irrelevant to the OP's question unless he's providing an ironing service to his neighbourhood.
We are all electric, are at home all day and heat with electricity and still dont use as much as the OP suggests that he gets through, so the first thing to do is work out what is using it all.
If he's got gas centra heating and hot water then TBH even with electric showers, immersion heater, using a washer and dryer several times a day etc you'd be hard pushed to use over 7000kwh a year.
Are electric heaters in use somewhere or perhaps electric underfloor heating in a conservatory or bathroom etc. A bit of sleuthing is required to pin it down and reduce consumptionThere are numerous reasons why people can have larger billsMedical Kit in home (dialysis, air beds in latter life etc)Hobbies or Interests - like fish tanks and fish pondsSome of these can run into 1000s kWh annuallyNot all can be cut.
Generally though if you are on dialysis or have an oxygen concentrator (like my bro) then you get a payment towards the energy costs associated with it.
Fish tanks, ponds or hot tubs are an option, not a necessity -just my opinion you understand but as others have pointed out the OP is using twice the average amount of leccy and less than the average amount of gas, so it would be worthwhile investigating if he want to save costs.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Know charities like kidneycare uk - have been pleading with NHS to increase those to reflect this winters 2:1 cost increase - even with the EPG.The consumption figures for some kit is high - even at Oct EPG rates kindeycare site quotes "estimated cost for home dialysis will go up to between £814 and £1918 per year"Hope it has happened - or if in progress - gets backdated.

This is all conjecture, we don't actually know what the OP is using, so chucking ironing, dialysis or any other spurious guesses doesn't help at all except let some get onto their favourite bandwagon or bang their favourite drum.
This forum isn't or shouldn't be a political platform or even a campaigning platform, so it would be good if we could keep to the original subject which is why this years cost increase is so high, which seems to be mainly because he using more leccy than the average. Perhaps he could come back to us and suggest whether he is using all this additional stuff that you are guess, or whether its just that his kids are having three showers a day.
Although, that said, if you want to start a thread on the cost of dialysis etc then feel free to do so, but it really doesn't help the OP with his problem on this thread.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
