The scheme for England and Wales has changed now. You have to be claiming a qualifying benefit AND live in a property that qualifies as needing high energy costs. The way they work that out is based on the age, type and size of where you live.
You can put in your details here to see if you maybe should be eligible https://www.gov.uk/check-if-youre-eligible-for-warm-home-discount
It's not always right but it will give you some idea.1 -
As @Spoonie_Turtleys, there are new criteria for the WHD this year. It does not matter that you were eligible before, you need now to live in a property that is rated as High energy use. This has nothing to do with how much energy you use, but is based purely on type of property size and age.The government £67 pounds don't last for a month. . I'm suggesting to pay my electricity as itThe energy grant is not supposed to pay for your electricity, it is supposed to help you with the higher cost this year.

I believe they are also using any EPC ratings which you may have on your property. I did not receive the discount this year, and I think it is because my property has an EPC rating of B, even though the cladding and insulation was removed over 2 years ago and has still not been replaced. I've been trying for over a week to get through on the 0800 number, and on the 2 occasions I finally did get through, I sat for 5 minutes waiting and then suddenly was being asked a questionnaire about how I felt the call went! I hadn't even spoken to anyone.1

Like many others I have not received the WHD for this year despite my circumstances not changing. I Live in Scotland and am registered on the Priority Register . I am 78 years of age and the only income I have is state pension. I have a small private pension which only puts me over the rate to apply for pensions credits by about £1.00. I am on a fixed tariff until 31 July and in credit with my suppliers but they have now increased my DD by £30.00 per month. Can I tell them not to increase it and I will make up any shortfall myself if prices continue to rise after July.0

As you are in Scotland the new rules do not apply to you, they only apply in England and Wales.
Have you made an application through your energy supplier as you have done (I assume) in previous years?1 -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Scotland you only get the WHD if you get the guarantee credit element of pension credit, or are on certain other benefits (the former don't need to apply and should get it automatically, the latter need to apply).
You can phone the Warm Home Discount helpline on 0800 107 8002.

Same for me , this year I don't qualify BECAUSE MY HOUSE IS TOO SMALL APPARENTLY. So people in bigger houses will get more money to waste on fuel to heat bigger spaces . Also those in old inefficient houses will get it too. So the government is effectively giving people in bigger houses more money so they can turn up their boilers to heat more space ......I don't get it ....how is that helping everyone who needs it ....how is that helping the environment....its just encouraging more fuel waste and financing non insulated homes . NO WONDER PEOPLE ARE SITTING ON THE M25 DEMANDING INVESTMENT IN THERMAL INSULATION! People in bigger houses should reduce the amount of rooms they use to SAVE money and use LESS fuel not the other way round. Those on low incomes should receive the same help regardless of their house size and then be expected adjust their living space to make themselves warm ......1

I can understand you being upset at not qualifying this year but it's a bit of a stretch to accuse other people struggling to survive on benefits of blithely wasting fuel to keep themselves from freezing. Most of those in older/larger homes and on such low incomes are likely to be families, people in social housing, and pensioners.
It's not an easy thing to find somewhere smaller / newer / better insulated to live, particularly when they will be more expensive to rent or buy (not that people on such a low income could afford to buy or be accepted for a mortgage, maybe only pensioners or empty nesters who are in a position to sell for enough money to downsize and buy the next home outright).
