Not sure I can bring myself to read the Daily Mail but, as I said in another similar thread, it can only be a tiny fraction of one percent of online purchases that are genuinely affected by this kind of issue.

That is not to minimise how distressing it must be if you are one of the unlucky few. I would certainly suggest taking all reasonable precautions, such as trying to be in for deliveries and documenting all aspects of any returns.

Ultimately nobody wants to pay the full economic price of more secure delivery services. So, the only options are to either accept the small risk or only buy face to face. Remember to that buying remotely actually gives you some additional legal protections that don't apply over the counter so that has to be factored in too.

Amazon deliver over 2 million packages per day in the UK according to figures I have read.  Even if only 1 in 10,000 is affected, that is 200 per day.  Over a year that would be 73000 packages 'interferred with'.  That is major organised crime, but many seem to think it isn't worth worrying about.

No, I am not saying that at all. Whilst not the only factor on the list, it would certainly be something I would consider when deciding whether to buy certain more expensive items online.

Obviously the 1 in 10000 is a guess (?) Amazon presumably know how many such claims they receive. Of those, how may are fraudulent? Again I have no idea.

Physical shops lose a staggering amount to shoplifting, despite spending substantial amounts on security measures. The difference is that it doesn't affect individual innocent customers although of course it inflates prices for all.
  • Hi @jjcgiles
I purchased a Samsung s22 ultra valued at 930 on the 5th November
It was delivered and my daughter signed for it. There was a quick picture of her feet and the door opened. She then put it on the side and when i got home to open up the package i found a tape measure had been put in its place.
I reported it to Samsung and they opened up a case. After 4 hours of chasing up Samsung and over 30 emails and being told to wait 48hrs and wait 10 days ect ect they now have told me it was delivered and case closed. How can i proceed now please.
Did you ever manage to resolve this? This has just happened to me today sadly and Samsung don't seem to be very helpful off the bat.

They last logged in back in January, so unless they have alerts turned on, you're unlikely to get a reply.
