Collection code??

I won a collection only item yesterday and want to pick it up today but still do not have a code even after contacting customer services!
Why doesn't ebay send the codes automatically for collection only items? It is so frustrating for buyers and sellers.

  • I've always assumed the code is sent automatically when you checkout via eBay and select the collection option?
Have you paid for the item yet?

As a seller, I had to download the app, so I could scan the buyer’s code on their app. I agree that it could be made easier.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The item ended yesterday at 14.25 and I paid immediately.  I have not had any code in messages or in email I messaged ebay assistant and asked for the code this morning at 0815 and was told the code will be sent in the next 48 hours.  but I, and the seller, want to collect today!

Are you happy to pay cash and will the seller agree to refund your payment and you pay cash on collection today?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

I have the app and there was no way of scanning when I sold something that was collection only.  In the end she forwarded me the email with the code on and I just made a note under the sale details.  I also got her to sign to say she received it and I have CCTV too so I was pretty well covered

Well I collected it in the afternoon, still no code, fortunately for me the seller obviously knew nothing about the code and didn't even ask me to sign a receipt or anything.  Fortunately for him I am honest and am pleased with my purchase.

Don't ever pay cash on collection if you can avoid it with an eBay purchase.

Several years ago I purchased a printer via eBay and paid cash on collection. The seller had many positive feedback and seemed to have many units available, all selling with good feedback left from all buyers. He asked me to meet him outside a post office down his road, which I did. Printer was sealed in box and I paid cash and took the printer away.

Printer itself was new, sealed, and worked perfectly fine.

About 2 months later it stopped working. Contacted the manufacturer who informed me it was purchased via a subscription based service - so I would need to sign up to a subscription which would send me ink bottles etc when the printer was low. I said I didn't want this - I didn't use it enough to justify paying for a service I don't need, but as the printer was programmed this way there was nothing they could advise other then to return it to the place of purchase!

In essence the seller purchased via a subscription service so got the printer cheap, then sold it to me [and others], and cancelled the subscription some time later, leaving me with a large paperweight!

From all the negative feedbacks he was now getting, other buyers were able to get their money back via eBay - I was stuck since I had paid cash. He blocked me from calling him and that was that. Lesson learnt - always pay via eBay and then go pick up teh item. At least you have some protection this way.

You won't have any protection 2 months later unless it's a business seller and you deal with it directly.  Ebay wouldn't touch this

Agreed, as long as the seller can get you past the 30 day time limit then eBay won’t be interested.

I paid for it by Paypal through Ebay.  I started this thread to see if anyone had succeeded in getting a QR code after requesting one?
