Morning all, ice not quite gone but much better. When I was out with the dog, a man stopped and asked about the poorly van- it was the man who hit our stationary car about 2 years ago !
We have actually got to know him quite well as he's local. I said we need a grit bin, and he told me there is one on another local road and he'd been to get some for their little cul-de-sac .Still no word from any garages on repairs though.
Camelot, I agree with you & will be investigating! Some of the current series of Happy Valley was filmed in our town, the courts and the cafe. .Izzy, we watched Bank of dave on Saturday and really enjoyed it.Car in for MOT later.Something with mince for tea tonight.Chrisca- we are football fans too, our town team, and grassroots, namely our DGD & DGS teams- takes up nearly all our weekend sometimes. It was instilled in me early, my DDad used to take me from the age of about 11Nice to see you posting Ruby, and thoughts to the poorly. Take care everyone

Morning all, didn't get round to posting yesterday as I was busy, busy, busy. We had a lovely weekend with DGS, mostly watching ghost hunting type of programmes together ( he must follow me 😁) while Mr Fix It watched Utube as he's not interested. DGS went home mid afternoon but Dad, who had arrived at lunchtime, didn't go home till mid evening. Finally I collapsed onto the sofa about 7.30 pm and I didn't open my laptop till this morning.
I'm still aching and sporting a few bruises from my fall so today will be a down tools day with my backside firmly stuck to the sofa and I'm on strike from wallpapering, painting, cleaning or tidying, so there ! The only type of "ing" I'm doing today is eating 🤣 There are leftovers for tea today so they just need warming through and some lo Jaffa cake for pud.
Gers thanks for the info about Jackie O. Shame she hasn't had her op yet and they've sent her home without doing it.
Take care all, hugs to the poorly ones stay safe and warm.
nan xx

Nanny - so sorry about your fall, you do right to rest up and soothe your spirit and body. An eating and drinking day (I don't mean booze necessarily) is a great idea.Rosy - my fingers are crossed for your MOT and I hope that you hear back from a garage soon.TA - I wish I had access to Ocada. It's so lovely that your DGD wants to come to chat to you.Bella - my other hand has fingers crossed for your DD1 and her BF.Scarlet - good luck with the painting.Iris - having nothing planned means that you open to whimsy - it's good!Carolbee - you took me right back to the Vicar of Dibley and the weird food concoctions.Izzy - well done on not having any of your home baked cake.I've been to the nurse, BP fine and blood taken and back home. As the rose bush at the front door is beginning to bud I've been at it with the snips to remove all the dead wood. I'm sure it should have been done in the autumn so I'm hoping that the rose won't suffer too much. It's been neglected since 2018 and still blossoming well. The replacement machine I got in JL on Saturday has the same fault as the original so I've been on the phone to the manufacturer and JL this morning. I've insisted on taking the blooming thing back to JL and for someone in the technology department to test it with me there AND test another replacement machine before I take it away. It's a 200 mile round trip so I need the reassurance. So far, so good!11

Afternoon all. Oh on the computer early this morning so no chance to post till now. I didn't forget the bones, I found them in the porch last night so half went out for the foxes and they're gone this monring. The cold weather in the porch kept them refridgerated
Yesterdays supper was JP's and tuna in the end, breakfast a fry up of onions, tinned potatoes and scrambled eggs so everything so far from the cupboards. Long may that continue. I will investigate a vegetable something or other later, but the fridge is in the lean to, doesn't like cold weather so all the peppers and carrots are frozen in the bottom. I am going ot be doing some more decluttering today, death is on my mind and I worry that something may happen to me leaving OH to sort out all my rubbish so this is going to be a serious chuck out. I'm even going to get rid of a lot of my unread books that I mean to get round to, you know the ones, you ought to read them but are not totally thrilled about doing it...
Good to see Jackie is home even without the op. Ruby, you just keep on doing nothing..Chris, that was one of the few things that made working bearable was a good co worker to laugh with. Happy decorating or relaxing to those doing either, take care today, wrap up again, weather is set to be silly cold the next few days here.

Hello everyone
I'm last today - but I've been at work all day so I have an excuse. Shattered as I always am after a full day. At last the ice has gone - bit weird to see green grass again. Little one asked if someone had been in a truck and taken all the ice back to the North Pole!
Has anyone any advice on making a bolognese type sauce without the mince? I made one yesterday with Quorn mince and it's ok but hasn't got enough flavour. I'm not veggie but meat is so expensive just now.
I used the Quorn mince, peppers, onions, courgette, a jar of pasta sauce and 2 tins of tomatoes. As I say it was ok but only ok!
Going to get washed up and my jarmies on. x11 -
I declare today numpty day…..almost every email I received at work could have been avoided if people had actually read them….my dashcam fell off the windscreen….and neighbours daughter couldn’t wait 2 mins before pulling out so I had to reverse down the road with 2 cars and a bus behind me and 4 cars in front.

Use a good beef stock cube. I would use a really rich knorr one. And use tinned tomatoes/passata, onions, celery and little bit of carrot [ too much and it'll be too sweet] as a base and add garlic/mushrooms etc as you like. Peppers will give it too sweet a taste. Porcini mushroom give a meatier taste to normal spag bog sauce, I use them sometimes for that. Quite cheap in lidls italian weeks. But definintely throw the bottom half inch of liquid away you use to reconstitute [the rest in the sppag bog] because they are quite gritty. You can make a good pasta sauce with very cheap cuts of meat, do as they do in Italy in some parts. Make a sugo with onions, tomatoes, stick of celery, half a carrot, add in some pork ribs, or pork mince, and cook long and slow, shred the pork afterwards or keep it for a second course and just have the tomato sauce on the pasta. Bolognese is a British thing, it doesn't exist as we think of it in Italy. They use all sorts ot make a meat sauce. I recently made one from the guardian which was a liver pasta sauce, absolutely fantastic...My friend was drooling over it, and it used liver, onions, glass of red wine and butter. No tomatoes.I'm not saying you have to use meat, but I am saying you can make much better pasta sauces with very cheap meat.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

Good evening all.
Nothing exciting to report, but nothing bad either, 2 pleasant walks, some tidying and washing drying with the aid of dehumidifier. A yummy supper of RTC salmon fillet grilled on the Ninja grill with stir fried veg and brown rice, I found some LF rice pudding in the freezer, lovely with some HM Damson jam.
I hope that everyone has a snug and peaceful night and sweet dreams. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)7
