I expect But the catheter being put in by a carer would count as needing someone else to manage  toileting needs

As explained by others, it will depend on why they can't do that their self and they will need to explain the reasons why. Just because someone does it for them doesn't automatically entitle then to score the 6 points.

And it is also needing someone to manage therapy (as a catheter is therapy) so I don’t see why it wouldn’t count in both descriptors
        No it wouldn't.
A catheter (used in the you describe) is not therapy.

Look at the guide I posted, if you wish to understand better what scores points under the Managing Therapy.

No, it's not classed as therapy.

If accepted by the DWP decision maker then 6 points should be awarded.
If not then you want to put the info about the need to wear pads on the form, so that a minimum of 2 points can be awarded.

Why can't the person manage the catheter?

  • The person is autistic (alongside other mental issues) and morbidly obese. Even if they could reach they would a) not remember/not know they need it at times b) get very distressed by the need to learn / do it

we have included the use of pads :)

You can't score twice on the same descriptor, only the higher scoring one applies.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Yes I know but they are always trying to not give you the points you really deserve so it’s very likely they will ignore the catheter but the pads is something practically impossible to ignore/dismiss

Points can't be scored under managing therapy for using a catheter. Please read the links provided.
