Can you get a credit limit increase with an active default on your file?

Good evening,
I currently have a default that is due to drop off in October (I’ve also recently discovered that for the last 2 years they have not reported that I’m paying the balance down every month and have reported the same figure for the last 24 months, so escalating to CISAS).
I’ve got a credit card that I’ve had for 16 months now, manage the account well and pay in full every month but have never had a credit limit increase.
I’m starting to think the only reason is because I have an active default on file?

Could it be the case even though I was approved for the card with the default?
I would like to close the card due to the fact the limit has stayed the same but wondering if this may be impacting it and change once the default drops off.
Has anyone here had a credit limit increase whilst having an active older default on their file?
From what I’ve seen those who have satisfied defaults tend to get the increases

Have you asked for a limit increase? In the current conditions and the whole piece around responsible lending etc some will have scaled back on auto-increases but that doesn't mean they wont entertain a requested increase.0
