I just received my matt black (Smooth no raised numbers) credit card today. Looks ugly and cheap like the the Matt finishes you get on cars.
I’m stuck with this card for 5 years I wish they’d made an effort, looks sickly.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the design, either. i preferred the look of the old red cards. Whilst I like the absence of embossing, I don't like the portrait format. However, the main thing - and the only thing about which I really care - is that it's a prefectly good credit card that's accepted at all the usual places.

I've seen similar threads in the past. I struggle to understand how anyone could get upset over the look of a credit card - as long as it does what it's supposed to do, what else matters?Cars, I can understand, if you don't like the look of a car then you won't want to drive it. Even perhaps kitchen appliances, a lot of people like their kitchens to look "nice" and view appliances as more than just functional items, the aesthetics need to match. But a credit card?8

change your credit card issuer if it bothers you that much

What an excellent reason for creating an account and adding your first post.8

The issuing of the matt black credit cards is to help you in the cost of living crisis. The idea being that because they look cheap, ugly and sickly you won’t be tempted to take it out of your purse/wallet so often and therefore will spend less6

Just add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay and pay with your phone. You'll hardly ever have to look at it again.1

Similar complaint for NatWest’s new Mastercard Debit Cards for current accounts. They are portrait, look a bit cartoonish, no embossing or numbers on the front &, the actual problem, all exactly the same design!
so if you have two current accounts & two cards there’s no way to tell them apart. I’ve resorted to writing the name of the account on the front in big letters with a Sharpie so I can distinguish between the two.0 -
It's good that this stupid unneeded embossing disappears gradually. Wallets get slimmer and so does a box in my drawer where I store dozens of my cards that I hardly ever use.

Just wondered, how are blind people are supposed to tell them apart?
