Thanks folks - it was under the duvet last night, and I will try it over the duvet tonight.

I keep reading about people putting stuff under the bottom sheet (a fleecy blanket or a summer duvet etc). Apparently it keeps you warmer than putting more on top of yourself. That doesn't make sense to me so I've never tried it.
I don't get his 4 tog business, I sleep under 2x15 tog duvets after carefully wrapping myself up in 2 blankets. The mummified approach to warmth suits me well.Hes so bad that not only do I have a mattress protector on, his side of the bed also has a double sheet folded in half. He insists

I have really good fleece bed sheets bought from a US brand LL.Bean - Fleece Sheet Collection at L.L. Bean (llbean.com). It's seriously warm and wouldn't need any extra covers on top of my 10.5 tog duvet.
What's a 4-season duvet equivlent tog size?0 -
Mine is 13 tog altogether, a 4 tog, a 9 tog and you clip the two together to make 13 tog. Though I tend to put a duvet cover on each of them, and then pile the two together over me. Its easier when the weather changes from warm to cold and back again.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

Mine is a 14 tog, 9.5 & 4.5, king-size.
I always use a top sheet mainly as it means I don't need to wash the cover weekly when i change my sheets, but also as it is an extra layer to trap air.
I think quilted bed cover on top of the duvet is the way to go for me - I've just had 2 x 8-hour nights, with window open, no heat overnight & in the buff, so I think that's my optimum overnight temperature 😁 If I get too warm i can throw off the quilted cover (there's only ever me to please, so no disgruntled partner to complain about things! 😉)2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

When I put the electric blanket on the bed in the winter, we are immeiaitely warmer in bed even without a flannel duvet. I've slept on top of a duvet and under a duvet before, also very warm, and when I vivist my sister, I sleep on a wool banket under a down duvet I gave her because she has no heating in the house except for the kitchen and it is futtocking freezing in the bedroom. I can confidently say, if you sleep on a blanket/duvt/whaever, it will be warmer, because it basically acts like a sleeping bag.We have a 4 tog wool duvet and it is fine in the winter with a flannelette duvet cover and bottom sheet. Only very occasionally do we need a throw on top of that. the bedroom gets heated once a day for an hour when the ch is on in the morning for OH when he's on earlies but the chimney runs through there so when the fire is on it does keep the room not warm but not too cold.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi1

We had a new mattress last week and it's definitely colder than the previous one which has a memory foam top to it. Will be great in the summer when MF was too warm.

First holiday I went on with then boyfriend, I discovered that he was a duvet hog. I would wake up without any share of the duvet. We switched to sheets, blankets and bedspreads when we moved in together. Much more flexible and wth tucked in sides and bottom, no hogging. Can be cheaper too, buying sheets etc in sales or supermarkets.0

Another one who swapped to a sheet & blankets several years back and don’t miss duvets at all, we don’t heat our bedroom and most of this winter I have been quite happy under a flannel sheet with two wool blankets, only pulling up the bedspread on the coldest of nights.0
