  • It might be a matter of sexism as much as anything else. Unemployed men with working partners are often made to feel about *yeah* high, and even working ones sometimes struggle with earning less than their wives (have no idea if that's an issue for same sex couples). Maybe ask how he would feel about becoming the official "house husband" as far as the critical family are concerned and his aptitudes/wellness allow - making it possible for you to work by holding down the domestic administration/childcare in a 21st century stylee. 
    If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!
