  • Agreed, although this was free money. It's unlikely to be totally wiped out, and could possibly do very well.
I've done a similar investment, no great expectations and just interested to see how it goes.

When one can get 5-7% risk-free today from a bog-standard savings account, the 5% dividend from a risky Lloyds share gamble doesn't look particularly attractive (or logical).
With Lloyds it's a big capital gain you're really hoping for. The dividend is just, 'paying you to wait' as people used to say.

    Of course.

But the LLOY share price has halved in the past ~14 years. It's one of the worst-performing shares in stock market history.

My Lloyds shares are what became of my Halifax demutualisation shares that I decided to keep in the 90s. I reckon they have lost about 90% value since then :s
I keep them as a reminder as to the dangers of individual company share ownership!

    Retired 1st July 2021.
    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

Only if you exclude all the shares that have gone to zero.

I have got my £50 incentive.
I understand their GIA is free of charge. I  wonder if there is any point to keep them ?
What is the easiest way to take out all of your £100 and close the account ?
