Life Assurance & Recreational Drugs

Hello all
A bit of a strange one I think, but I've been unable to find any answers on Google, so I though y'all may be able to help.
I've recently been turned down for term level assurance and think it may have to do with the answers I gave to the non-prescribed drug use question, i.e., I said yes... but at least a year ago (I'm now older and wiser
).
does anyone know if this would have adversely affected my request for cover
thanks

If the question is asked, you have to answer truthfully. Otherwise you may get accepted for cover but in the event of death, they would refuse to pay out. Making it pointless.
Whether the question is asked with every provider though is a different matter.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I'd suggest that next time you answer the question, you give extra information, ie what you told us, and keep your fingers crossed!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thanks everyone...
I'm about to apply through another company, and their application forms do ask the question, as well as request you to fill out a drug use questionnaire.
so I guess it's just a case of honestly's the best policy0 -
You were definately turned down because of your answer...it has happened to a mate of mine.0

Just out of interest, how would they ever find out? For example: 25 year old buys life assurance now, and isn't totally honest about their recreational activities whilst at university a couple of years ago. Dies of a heart attack in 20 years time. How could the insurers prove a link between the two?Midas.0 -

I'm not sure there is a way, unless you've spoken to your GP about it.0 -
Well I guess the thing is that you run the risk in the short term...................if you're lucky enough to live a long life, then I guess there's no way to prove it.Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. well... the one thing about lying is that as part of the application, i was given a medical during which i had to give blood and urine samples. don't know what they were tested for though.
i'm sending off my new app, in which i've been totally honest. so i'll just have to see.
i did call the 1st company and am now waiting for a definte reply as to why, which i'll post here once i get it
thanks again to everyone :-)0 -
