I would recommend you read the Newbies thread thoroughly again to remind yourself of the process you have been sucked into. They were always likely to submit a court claim if you didn’t pay up as that is how they make money. Have a look at the thread by @Mouse007 which is a good recent example of a residential case.Did they send you a letter of claim first?
What is the issue date on the court claim. This is needed to calculate the date by which you need to respond on MCOL with an Acknowledgment of Service (AOS) and then submit your defence via email.
Once the PPC has considered your defence they will either choose to pay for a hearing or will discontinue. In the likely event they proceed to court you will need to submit a witness statement. They rely on the fact that many people are frightened into paying up by this stage by their bluster. Don’t give in to them as it only encourages them to scam others.5 -
The £268 is what the PPC is claiming not what the court will necessarily allow. It no doubt includes an additional £60/£70 in fake costs and interest which the court usually discounts. The higher the amount the scammers include the more people are frightened into paying. If victims don’t defend the scammers win the whole amount by default

Okay, thank you, i will run through that thread.
Yes i received a letter of claim from a legal advice company.
The issue date on the court claim is 14th April 2023.
The letter is very threatening, which i am completely unfazed by now due to the awareness of this scam.0 -
MThomas95 said:Hello, Following on from the previous threatening letters i received, I have now received a letter through the post today which is a claim form for County Court Business Centre. This states that i now owe £268 in fees for court fees, legal representative's cost and the claim amount. It is stating that i need to respond through www.moneyclaim.gov.uk with their claim number to pay the fee or fill in the form attached to the letter that and send it to the court within 14 days. I am confused as to why court fee's have been added to the payment as there was not court date sent to me for this ticket. I am also unsure as to what to do next from this as sending a letter of defence to the court in writing seems very archaic. Please any advice on this would be helpful, as i thought i was done with this scam, but apparently NOT!
The second post in the Newbies/FAQ thread refers. You must keep reading the Newbies/FAQ thread and treat it like a reference. The Template defence thread posted near the Newbies thread also applies and contains a handy checklist of what to expect, when and what to do.3 -
MThomas95 said:The issue date on the court claim is 14th April 2023.With a Claim Issue Date of 14th April, you have until Wednesday 3rd May to file an Acknowledgment of Service but there is nothing to be gained by delaying it.To file an Acknowledgment of Service, follow the guidance in the Dropbox file linked from the second post in the NEWBIES thread.Having filed an Acknowledgment of Service in a timely manner, you have until 4pm on Wednesday 17th May 2023 to file your Defence. That's four weeks away. Plenty of time to produce a Defence, but please don't leave it to the last minute. To create a Defence, and then file a Defence by email, look again at the second post on the NEWBIES thread - immediately following where you found the Acknowledgment of Service guidance.Don't miss the deadline for filing an Acknowledgment of Service, nor that for filing a Defence.
Do not try and file a Defence via the MoneyClaimOnline website. Once an Acknowledgment of Service has been filed, the MCOL website should be treated as 'read only'.4 -
