Labels on fruit and veg are safe to consume, I'm told by a much younger friend who studied Food Tech at GCSE recently. Of course it's best to remove them but the label and adhesive both have to be food safe just in case they are overlooked when preparing vegetables.

Um...Where did you hear that? As a fully paid up member of compost corner [no such thing, I made it up] I have to say that it takes days or a couple of weeks weeks depending on where you put it.

Funny, I was about to agree with Rosa. Do I remember something (poss off of QI) about bananas being very very very slightly radioactive... same as brazil nuts.... and you shouldn't put them in your compost?

I think they may have made more of it than is actually true...Banana skins compost very quickly because they are soft and juicy.

I wasn’t gonna ask how you know, but I was gonna ask how many/which other things you tried before you thought “go get the wd40, we’ve tried every bladdy thing else!”

I have recently planted banana skins with my new clematis as suggested by a reputable gardening site, apparently the clematis benefit from the potassium.
