Parcel Force delivered the wrong Parcel

I bought an expensive guitar via a reputable musical instrument market place. Great communication with the seller. He sent me a pic of the guitat all boxed up and in the hands of the Parcelforce driver. I had a message to say the item would be delivered the next day. I wasnt home so my kind neighbour took it in. When i went to collect it was not a guitar or even close to the original box the seller sent. I receiece a kids pushbike but the box had my name address on it and the address of the seller of the guitar. I immediately contacted the seller and he was upset as well.

The only way to contact Parcelforce is via twitter which is frustrating. Theyve basically told me not to contact them. The seller has been in talks and they have said that the driver must have put the wrong label on it. Thats it. Ive lost an expensive guitar, my dream guitar, and it seems like Parcelforce have no interest. All they've offered to do is to uplift the kids bike.

What can i do??

Did you arrange the Parcelforce collection or did the seller? If it was the seller, then claim the money back off them - they are the ones who had a contract with ParcelForce and so any claim against ParcelForce is their concern.

I think I would be going back to the seller, as if they also sold the bike they must have some idea where your guitar went, probably to the person who bought the bike.

Parcel bring a label to the door, it is t taken away to be labelled, so any mislabelling must have been done in sellers presence.

Cut and paste from Parcelforce site.
Not a problem if your parcel is being collected, the Parcelforce courier driver will bring the label so all you have to do is simply write the delivery name, address and MPD booking reference directly onto your parcel. To use the drop-off service you must print the label.

It's worth a try, but I suspect the seller didn't sell the bike.  I suspect the two labels were swapped in the van or at the depot.  Hopefully there's something inside the guitar box to identify the seller or the OP, and that the erroneous recipient of the guitar (which the kid will be very disappointed with if they were expecting a bike!) comes forward to help sort things out.

OP, as tripled says, this might not be "your problem".  If the seller organised the courier (and it seems they did) then it's their loss and their problem.  They should be refunding you what you paid for the guitar and postage.

Yes he did arrange the collection. He is also in talks with Parcelforce

I have asked him to put a post on local social media to see if anyone in his area was selling a bike. If the labels were swapped then hopefully their recipient will have the guitar.

Im not worried about getting the money back, i have enough buyer protection, i really wanted the guitar to be honest!

Are the 2 boxes, the one in the picture that the seller sent you & the one you received the same?

I would imagine that a box for a guitar & one for a bike would be different?

In which case, there's not much more you can do than await the seller's efforts.  I'd be pushing for an immediate refund with the offer to buy it again if the guitar turns up.  If you delay claiming your refund too long, you might end up with difficulty claiming it.

The two boxes are completely different sizes as youd expect.

Good point on the refund, im sure thatll go down well with the seller
  • I would be very surprised if it the same seller as when reported the seller would look to see if a bike was sold around that time. Also think an angry parent ringing up saying their child can't ride a guitar would be a giveaway.

Parcelforce  should be showing an interest in the bike, it's neither your problem or the guitar sellers.

I don't know if it is just me but there is something in the fact the seller sent you a picture of the box in the Parcel Force employees hands that just doesn't sit right with me.

Sounds a great idea.  Parcelforce then can not claim not to have received it, or it had any damage before it was sent.
