BT Broadband

Had a call from someone who claimed to be from BT and they said they could see on their system that there were issues with my broadband.
The phone number was a sort of local one to me ( looked like a residential one so presume it's been asked somehow ).
Asked me to check my BB speed, which I did via an app on my phone.
He then said he'd transfer me to the technical dept.
At this point I hung up as I was suspicious, but I'm struggling to see what the scam is unless at some point they ask for ability to access my laptop remotely.
Is this a know scam?
Thanks
