What confuses me is why is their a courier cost when OP returned to store?

  • Bought online. Returned to the factory.

They are not charging for the return, the are deducting the original shipping costs (what they paid, which is more than I was charged).

If I'm keeping up,  the retailer claims it cost more to post the item to the OP  than they charged P&P
Now the retailer has deducted that extra cost from the price of the item refunded.

If the OP had used their right to cancel however, they would be responsible for all returns costs. So whilst they would be due the original postage costs back, they would have to pay for the return and the hassle in getting it back to the retailer.

I don’t think it sounds right either, however realistically, how are you going to get them to back down?

There were no return costs incurred.  The OP returned the goods personally.
  • OP what payment type did you use?  If credit card  could try to claim the deducted money via S75

  • PayPal. I have raised a dispute with them but I’m not sure how well they deal with this sort of thing.

I think Paypal can be a law unto theirselves.  I did open a dispute with PP for a partial refund a few months back and they paid out quickly

My bad, I completely missed that in the OP.
  • So PayPal have fobbed me off saying they don’t get involved with ‘courier issues’, closing the chat without giving me a chance to reply. As my creditor, they should be protecting me, no?
