Opinions of Lycamobile
Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap SIM only deal and have seen one via MSE for 5p a month for 6 months with Lycamobile. Ive seen that they use the O2 network but had a bad experience with o2 a number of years ago so wanted to know people's opinion on them and whether its worth changing to them for the deal?
Any help and advice would be most appreciated
Kind regards Mark

Have you searched this forum for "Lycamobile"?1

As Mr lobster, have a search through this forum.I and many others have expressed their poor experience with them. It would appear that the main source of complaints relate to non existent customer service. If WiFi calling is a criterion, they don't offer that - yet.If everything goes well though, 5p/month for 6 months could work out for you. If it doesn't good luck in any attempts to resolve any issues if it goes wrong.1

If at all possible (if, say, you have access to a spare phone) make sure that the Lyca SIM activates OK and the service meets your requirements for coverage etc, BEFORE you request PAC from your existing supplier.
If it doesn't work out for whatever reason then cancel the contract and you are only down 5p.0 -
Lebara offer similar prices and they use the Vodafone network if that is better for you. If you're asking about customer service then remember that at these prices you get what you pay for. If it is a 30 day plan then you can always switch away if you are not happy.0

Lycamobile uses the o2 network for its signal but they are a different company with different customer service. It gives you an option if you need the o2 signal but don't want their service (or to give them money).1

Kind regards MarkI have this deal, and previous deal (cheaper). They are decent, but I do not need their CS, neither do I have intention to port my main number. Shall I need them and can not reach them I just cancel it. Losing 5p is not a big deal. Each to their own but to me 4GB EU roaming, 100 international call, unlimited min and text is a very good deal if you do not port your main number. Even you just use their international call, mobile internet is already worthy.

I used Lycamobile for a month or so to port out of Lebara and then back to Lebara last year. A few things annoyed me which made me decide I will not use Lyca again:
1) For some weird reason the DTMF tones did not always work properly - in the same phone i had 2 sims - 1 Lebara and 1 Lyca - if i called the same number and had to enter menu options using the keypad, the Lebara one had no problems but the Lyca one could not hear the DTMF tones and kept telling me I hadn't entered anything even though I had. This was hit and miss - some phone numbers it worked and some it didn't - but it didn't work for my GP practice or my bank.
2) It wouldn't allow you text shortcodes - even free ones - another example - after an appointment my GP practice oftens texts to ask for feedback on a scale of 1 to 10 - about 3-4 questions about the service received and you have to reply pressing a number based on your scale of satisfaction - not one of those messages could ever be sent with Lyca - but with Lebara it was fine.
3) Internet speed where I live was not as good as Lebara.
All in all they are ok for a quick port in and then back out again if you want to start a new deal with Lebara (or anyone else for that matter) - but I would not stay on Lyca for the full month again personally.0 -
Well, I took the plunge and ordered a lyca sim and a lebara sim on Sunday, lebara sim arrived yesterday but after activating first thing this morning package has not yet been applied, lyca arrived today and was up and running in 2 mins. Downloading the app was a faff but other than that...So far anyway.1-0 to lyca0
