Competent does require specific certification depending on the work being done plus being gas safe registered.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTCC__xmJME

More specifically it's illegal to install your own gas boiler (or any other gas appliance) as it has to be registered and upto building regs.DIY gas work is legal provided that you are competent - following regulations, you do not need to be registered to work on your own appliance. You must be registered to work on anyone else's appliance however, and if your work causes damage to anyone else's property, you could be sued. If it causes death (eg. via explosion) then you could be facing manslaughter charges. So typically you wouldn't do it.0 -

Which law says that?

If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
