Got e-mail from D&G confirming boiler was unfixable so giving us £750 towards a new one, handed it all over to Gas Call who would contact us.
    Did some research on them.
E- mail this a.m. from Gas Call to arrange zoom call with us.?
Rang D&G and cancelled the lot. No problem, very efficient.
Will manage to limp along with boiler for a couple of months.
Might replace air-flow switch ourselves, or just carry on clearing pipe, takes 1 min.
Also a few local quotes for new  boiler and start afresh.
just need to recover from vicious flu bug.

If it's that easy to clean the pipe, it definitely has less side effects, and will be cheaper.
Considering the gas ban in 2025/2035, gas prices may increase to persuade people to move away from it.
    Is there alternatives?
I'm considering air-to-air heat pumps rather than air-to-water, as it means I get to cool and heat.

Is that a cash payment, or just a credit towards replacement by their pet supplier?

It’s a Hero 90, and think we’re going for  Worcester Bosch, conventional boiler type.
Our neighbour got one about 5 years ago, same type house as ours.
My OH used to work for Baxi years ago and since then he has kept up with latest makes
other neighbours just had new conventional boiler replacement in big renovation.

If they are giving £750 discount on a boiler get a quote from them, then compare the quote with other suppliers.
An easy one is to go to BOXT and get an online quote for comparison but you could also ask local companies for quotes.
You can then work out whether you are actually getting £750 discount or if they are hiking the price then giving you £750 discount.

Air pressure switch for that model seems to be widely available for around £50. Dozens of sources come up on a Google search, so why you were told 'unobtainable' is beyond me.
This is where the nationals fall down every time; they will have a dedicated wholesale source, and if the 'computer says no'. then that's it. Whereas your local independent RGI will find the part easily.
Look at Viessmann as an alternative to WB.

Forgive my cynicism, but I suspect this is how it works.
Had a ballpark figure to replace my boiler with a shiny new Worcester Bosch... £8500-8900 :o And that was from a local company... Eon is coming in at around £4K.

    That first quote is insane!
Less than £2000 to buy boiler etc
probably a couple of days work exchanging like for like type.
do they pluck these figures from thin air!

Are you sure they didn't quote you for a heat pump!

I think they were wanting install a completely new heating system, replumb with modern radiators. I just want a boiler fitted to the wall, a flue put in, and connected up to the new pipework that I'm installing. At most, a days work for them.

what is the make/model/GC number of the boiler and what is the faulty part??
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
