Rising heating oil prices

Options
With wholesale prices continuing to fall, why are retail prices to consumers continuing to rise?
There seems to be no Government Regulator or control over this area of the energy market.
I've obtained quotations from all my local suppliers in order to check prices, and without exception they've all increased
I have tried to get a question raised in the House but have got nowhere

Over what period do you say prices are “continuing to rise” boiler juice disagrees.

Government should go nowhere near domestic heating oil price control, its meddling in the electricity and gas markets has been an utter disaster (but had to be done).

Shop around get the best price and follow the Brent crude price in sterling (not dollars) to get indication of the direction of movement if you want to time your purchasing.

I’m seeing well under 80p now … hopefully into 60s before long.
Can’t see China kicking it up anytime soon.

I just grabbed a price and it was more or less the same as it was in December.

As there are no apparent problems with this part of the industry, why would it need a regulator?
Introducing costly regulators into markets and areas they are not wanted would be silly.

    compared to when?
They certainly have gone up since the May 2020. ;)

It can go either way there.   China has been opening up again, which should lead to pressure on the price.   However, its own vaccination programme was a disaster which is why we have seen the recent media coverage and daily increasing numbers being reported which could lead to localised lockdowns or restrictions which reduces pressure on the price.    Its very hard to call which way it is going to go.

A bigger risk is if Putin does to oil what he has done to gas.

Oil price here (Eastern Region) is 12p/litre cheaper today than it was when I ordered mid-December :(  That's taking today's price from Boilerjuice, so one of the locals would probably even beat that

There were shortages with local suppliers in some areas before Christmas, pushing prices up. As far as I know it's just pure open market supply and demand.
