I've made myself a challenge seen as my debts have stagnated. My youngest two (twins) will both start highschool in sept 26 and will need a school iPad or laptop depending on where they get in. The plan is to go to the same school as our eldest. The school iPad scheme this year at his school was 550 for new kids. They did a sibling discount (not sure how much) and there's the option of buying them on tic like we did for our eldest but that incurs interest. I use a chase account for weekly food shop, petrol spends etc -I get 1% cashback and have it set to round up. I've been building money up to cover one iPad hopefully both. I'm setting a target of 1000 pounds -its easy maths for the 1% 😂. It's gonna be a slow burn as it will be round ups, cash back and money left each week but it will be a big help if I can save it in time. And if I log it on here I can't pinch it for anything else can I!

I had a look I've got 117 so far. So that's 11%. I'd already started this idea but if I log it I'm more accountable aren't I. I may move it later on as the figure gets higher as I still find banks that are only online a bit weird but it's earning interest in their so I'll leave it for now.

Omg, that is really bad that you have to buy them. It's not like a few pens / pencils.

At the school we want the iPads are technically optional but all the work and homework is on them so it's needed really. They subsidise anyone on free school dinners but don't advertise it. The first year they introduced it you could rent one for sixty pounds for the year (think that was to cover the insurance) but now everyone who starts has to buy it or borrow one in class and go to homework club if they need to one outside of lesson time.  The other schools near uses a laptop and that is compulsory. Last year I was told it was 22 a month on tic for three years. The iPad is the cheaper school. And it has case keyboard etc. Another parent priced it up and said it's cheaper than we could buy it for ourselves but obviously is still a massive cost. At least with my eldest already there I'm not gonna be shocked by any of this when they start!
