I suggest going for a leather outer layer to give extra support.
Why would leather outer give extra support? Plastic can be much more rigid than leather and said silly priced slippers had kid leather (unlined) that's as supple as butter
Well leather compared to say fabric. And specifically the Dr Keller leather ones maintain shape well without being too firm. Too firm, like plastic, can be equally bad because it can force the foot into unnatural position, add strain and even rub the skin until it breaks (which is not good in older people).
    Saving for Christmas 2023 - £1 a day: #16. £90/£365

By plastic that would include polyester/nylon and other substances... there is a reason why plastic was seen as a miracle product as it can be stretchy, soft, hard, rigid and everything in-between before we considered it'll be still be around in thousands of years time.

Most materials, especially if discussed in very high terms, can cover a vast array of properties

Ok. I was thinking of rigid plastic. But I take your point!

It is really hard finding good shoes for people with arthritis/diabetes related foot conditions/oedema etc. coupled with the fact that often these conditions can make travelling to a store to try on shoes more challenging. There needs to be a travelling shoe fitting service for this group.

They do footwear for problem feet ...

Do you get on OK with Skechers? I do, at least most of their styles. I think they do slippers, but you could also consider having an indoor pair. I don't find they wear that well outdoors, but maybe my expectations are too high, for the price.

I dont know for those conditions, but having more mechanical issues with my feet I do value high quality footwear

The issue with travelling services is that you have to cover the cost of travel (time and materials) and when you add in markup (a multiple) it becomes very expensive. This is mainly because there is no cost for the travel so they could come and visit 5 times and not sell you a single thing

I bought some Moshulu slippers when I had plantar fascitis and found them supportive enough.  When they started to get a bit floppy I put some of the support insoles inside - I had these insoles in all of my shoes for ages.

These are similar to the slippers I bought:  https://www.moshulu.co.uk/product/peanut-brittle-1186#?variant=72

You can get either full length insoles or half length - I got them pretty cheaply £5-£10 on ebay:

Hi, I agree with those who are saying that by the sounds of things, you could really do with a proper and full assessment.

I have problems with feet, ankles, knees and buy slippers from Jo and Joe. I usually get backless ones with a firm sole but they have all kinds. I've been wearing them for years [*edited to read - not the same pair, I hasten to add, that'd be no good] and the ones I buy are usually less than £20.

Last month I bought some Jo and Joes from Shoe Zone online because there were no delivery charges.

I got the burgundy mule slipper and can recommend them as being really comfortable with a sturdy sole. But I do understand that you may need a special kind of slipper, given your specific needs.

Many years ago, I saw a NHS podiatrist (for bunions) and she asked what I wore in the house.
She said slippers didn't have enough support and said I should be wearing decent trainers. i.e. not Primark etc.
I've worn trainers ever since in the winter and trekking sandals in the summer. I have a pair of each that are for purely house use.

I'm currently wearing a pair of Nike Air trainers and Teva Tirra sandals.
