How do I get in this suitcase?

My wife discovered this functionality of the suitcase where putting the zipper into a hole locks the suitcase. We don't have a key for the hole where it says TSA007. How do we get into this?

Is it locked?  Pull the lever labelled TSA sideways.
If it is locked the combination code should release it - you only have 999 to try!

Just slide the bit with the red dot up - and the zip fastener should pop out. (if the case code is still set to 000 from factory) - if not - go through the combinations one by one from 001 to 999 until you hit the right one.
  • Silly me!- Just needed to slide the bit with the red dot up. Thankfully didn't need to do the combination even. Thanks!

With a gentle touch, you can sometimes feel when the dials line up..
Or go on to somewhere like ebay or amazon and buy a key - I see a few for £5 (maybe even cheaper if you dig a bit more).
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

You did, just its 000 still. Normally with this kind of lock the lever wouldnt slide if you had it on the wrong code.

The TSA is the US Transport Security Administration, the idea being that if they see something on xray they dont like they have universal keys that can open the bag to check what you've got inside rather than either cutting the lock or slicing the bag open. Was a nice idea when it was introduced but obviously the universal keys got into the wild and are now widely available so defeats the objective somewhat.

That said, most baggage handlers have to go through reasonable security each day and they may well be questioned why they are carrying a set of TSA keys to work if they were found.

Well that wouldnt work @cymruchris their code was 000 which is outside the range you suggested trying :)

They suggested 1 to 999 if it wasn’t set at 000 if you want to be pedantic 😄

We have a TSA combination lock on a baggage strap that decided to malfunction when we were at Rhodes airport. The strap was across the slide out handle making it difficult to move the very heavy suitcase, so we went to the security people asking if they had a key for the TSA lock so they could unlock it for us.  They didn't have one! Goodness knows how they get into suitcases of interest there.

In the end, with a lot of fiddling, we managed to get the lock back in alignment and it opened so we didn't have to attempt to cut the strap off.
