Virgin Broadband Contract Query

Hi all,
I'll try and keep this concise, and would appreciate any advice anyone has to offer...

I'm currently with Virgin Media M125 Broadband, paying £48.75/month, as I haven't done anything since my original deal ended.

I called them to ask what deal they could do, which after much back and forth ended up with a pretty disappointing £34/month for M350. Whilst on the face of it this looks like a good deal, the same M350 package is £27/month for a new customer (with £10 one off set up fee). I got utterly frustrated with 'as a loyal customer we can offer you this great deal', which started at £46/mth, and ended up at £34/mth.

This is where I need some advice if possible please....

To cut a long story short, I've given my 30 days notice today, and my plan is to cancel, then rejoin as a new customer at £27/month.

My questions...
1. How long do I need to wait to sign up again (I've seen conflicting info online, as some say you have to wait 30-90 days after the disconnection has taken place), others have said you can sign up as a new customer in a different name (i.e. my wife's) once the service has been disconnected?
2. I plan to sign up to a rolling monthly broadband in the meantime, to maintain some internet access for the household, is NOW broadband which is £22/mth (1 mth contract), and a £70 one off set up cost - is this the best option for a stop gap internet, and would it be able to use in paralell with Virgin if I wanted it to (overlap the services to avoid any loss in internet service of some kind)?

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this

  • You would have to give your 30 days notice to cancel. Once cancelled, you would have to wait 90 days before your wife could rejoin as a new customer. The connection between the two of you will be flagged at the credit check stage.
  • Thanks for your quick reply. Looks like accepting their offer is cheaper than 30 days of the stop gap broadband then 😞

Should I expect a call from Virgin over the coming days to offer me a better deal before I get disconnected?
