Pipex im spitting feathers with them

Options
Im mad as hell with these people.I asked for my MAC code on the 28th November i got it within an hour so i used it to join ADSL24.

I got activated on the 5th December to my new ISP.

On the 6th December i got in touch with Pipex saying i used my MAC code so i wanted them to send me what i owed money wise by post which the person said was fine.

Ive just looked at my bank details and they have taken a payment out when im not with them anymore.

They took payment on the 13th December when ive been with my new ISP since the 5th.How the hell can they take payment when ive told them on the 6th December i was with ADSL24.

Go to your bank and cancel the direct debit (why didn't you do it before?).

Tell your bank Pipex wrongly took the money from your account (which they did), and ask your bank to return the money to your account under the Direct Debit Guarantee.

rotti, I had a few problems quitting Pipex. They took payment after I used my mac code ( well actually I didn't, but that's a whole other story:rotfl: ) Anyway, the point is I 'phoned and it was sorted on the spot. You may find, as I did, that they had credited against my redundant Pipex account:rolleyes:
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • Keith i thought it was being payed by Direct Debut but it was being paid by Debit Card so i cannot cancel via the bank.

Churchmouse i phoned pipex up and they said that the account will be cancelled on the 28th dec and i will get 10 days money credited back into my account in 7 days, but considering it will be xmas day i doubt it will be put in on that day.

What im worried about is if it had been just Direct Debit i could cancel the account but with it being a Debit Card nothing will stop them taking money out as the bank cannot do anything about it so ive been told.

The only other way is cancelling all my Direct Debit payments and getting a new one which will make it a right hassle as all of our payments are via this.

Ive been told to send them a registered letter to them stating if any more money is taken out of my account i will get in touch with the bank and police as i would class it as fraud but i dont know how i would phrase the letter.

Yeah, you needed to give 30 days notice as per terms, with Pipex requesting the MAC also gives 30 days notice, although you switched suppliers before the 30 days, your email etc will continue to work until the date is up.

Take this as an opportunity to never set recurring payments up on a debit or credit card (CPA / CCCA), only use Direct Debit or Standing Orders. With recurring payments on debit / credit cards you are at the mercy of the company taking payments to stop when you ask them to, it can take several months before banks / card issuers can get on the case, at least with Direct Debit / Standing Orders you can cancel them straight away and with Direct Debit you have the guarantee scheme to fall back on.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Got my MAC code from Pipex by email and letter - the email was almost instantaneous. They have always been very helpful to speak to and are still pursuing a legal issue on my behalf, with regular updates. One tip here is if you're thinking of leaving Pipex, they will do almost anything to keep your custom - even lowering prices. Unfortunately, they couldn't better the free service I'm about to receive. Can't really fault them, otherwise!

Let's hope your free service doesn't turn out to be a nightmare.

It's well-established and came top in all the satisfaction categories of a new broadband satisfaction survey. I have two other ISP choices, just in case, so should be okay. If not, I'll revert to two baked bean cans and a piece of string! For those wanting a MAC Code, here's some sites that may help! http://www.maccode.org.uk/
