Mobile phone memory full

My Android phone memory is almost full.
Can't work out what's causing this.
Showing only 5GB free of 106GB

When I connect it to a PC I can't see where Netflix, Youtube or Youtube music stores files, perhaps they are causing memory to be full

I don't have so many photos saved.

How can I find out what's causing memory to be so full, particularly Youtube files.

Thank you

  • You should have a "files" app on your phone (if not then download the Google one). This will show what is using your phone's storage (rather than memory). Some of this will show as "Apps" and you should be able to drill down to see which are using the most storage.

Settings - Storage will give you a list of where storage is being used. You can then drill down into Apps, Images, Audio, Documents etc to see what is using the most.

Can you fit an SD card to expand the memory? Make and model would help.

If you suspect YouTube is a possible culprit you can check usage via Settings, then scroll down to Apps and then scroll right down to YouTube.

Select YouTube and then click on Storage. This will give you a breakdown of storage used by the App, Data and Cache. If the last two figures are massive then that's where the problem lies.

Do similar for other apps you think may be a source of the issue.

I've found that WhatsApp can be a real storage user as any videos you receive may be stored on your phone and they are duplicated every time you look at them. My wife's phone was chock a block with silly videos that friends sent to her.
