  • I am also finding I am overspending and also need to declutter my wardrobes.. (plural) So I am following in your footsteps
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I think some of the best advice on decluttering I heard this year was to only keep the stuff that fits your life now not the mythical life you may have in the future. Also your home is a container and it needs to work well for the people who live in it and for the activities they want to do - not just as a storage solution.

I think that's good advice savingholmes and when I am doing my wardrobe decluttering I'll focus on what I need now, rather than keeping things just in case.  It will be hard to let go of my for the future outfits.  I like to dress for comfort and I'll make sure I have different themes of my comfort outfits that can be suitable for different occasions.

I see what you are saying about having a home that works for us.  I do tend to think of it as a storage container and work on what can be squeezed in and stored, but I really want it to be a home for relaxing that reflects my personality.  So this is another thing to think about when I'm decluttering, instead of keeping things just in case only keep the things that I enjoy being around.

Its baby steps at the moment.

Thanks savingholmes, its important for me to have a plan before I tackle a task.  Will try the recommendations when I get time.

I've worked out which is my going out dress, and I know I have interview/smart work wear.  So now I just need to sort out everything that I don't wear/haven't worn for a long time.  The charity shop bag is getting fuller and I'm adding to the Vinted pile.  My 'at home' outfit is jeggings, plus a top and cardigan but I need to have one or two smarter versions of this for leaving the house.  I seem to have lots of tops and various pairs of jeans that I don't wear and I'm hoping if I thin out the choices I'll end up with less stuff that's worn more.  I would like a pair of boots and another pair of shoes - I live in trainers at the moment - so my aim will be to use any profit from Vinted.

Several more items added to the Vinted section.  Plus a small pile of summer clothes stacked up ready to go in the top of the wardrobe - I just need to find a suitable box.  One drawer left to sort as well as the bottom of the wardrobe which contains shoes and bags - I have a plan for better storage.  Its a good start.

Really proud of my decluttered wardrobe.  I can instantly see my everyday clothes - stretchy tops, cardigans/jumpers and jeans.  So much easier to see now that all of the summer clothes are packed away, all of the clothes I don't wear are in the spare room wardrobe waiting to go on vinted, and the rest are in the charity bag.  Shopped in one of the supermarkets today and found a lovely cardigan - it means my tatty old ones can be recycled.  They really are old and tatty - one was a charity shop buy and all the stretch has gone and there's a hole under arm, the other was an M&S purchase but its really seen better days and I feel really yuk when I'm wearing it. I think those may be ready for the recycling bag. Going out clothes section is tiny, but I hardly ever go out.  Workwear is still quite big, but its all things that fit and who knows when I might need an interview outfit.  Just a couple of drawers to go through now - old t-shirts to dispose of - then its the shoes and bags.
