1. Financials - mortgage overpayments: this is the focus from now on, so each pay day I will be making an OP, and any extra income, however small, will be thrown at the mortgage."Think of many things, do one"

I find playing alongside others works best for me - it's why I'm enjoying my art class so much. Is there something like that you could do?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Yes I like to do courses as I meet new people and learn things - had a catch up with the DiY people this week - tutor had left and we all miss the camaraderie of being annoyed at a chisel together or the wonder of realising putting guttering together (on the ground!) is therapeutic and easyOver the years I have done so many different courses - eyeing up garment construction in January … always cheers my Januarys upDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks savingholmes and LadywithaPlan. All my exercise tends to be with people so its sociable, but I think you are right learning something alongside other people with a common interest is a great idea."Think of many things, do one"

Payday has arrived and I've sent an OP £1,000 to the mortgage - that's our plan from now on until our interest rate changes in 2025. Normally I send the OP after the monthly dd so I hope the dd is taken as well. I'd like to make the normal monthly payment early too but I don't know how to go about doing that and it might mess things up so will let that go for the sake of not disrupting things
Once the dd is taken we'll be owing under £270k on the house. Still a lot but its definitely better than the initial £300k+ and much better than the mortgage we'd have to take out if we purchased today!
I seem to have had one minor illness after another recently, and I've had two evenings this week where I've dozed off in front of the TV and felt so much better for it. I'm in bed with my wheat bag now and this is the latest I've been awake for a while but I'm feeling a twinge of energy/positivity returning. Roll on the long weekend."Think of many things, do one"

Thanks all, and a happy Christmas! Hope everyone is okay, I'm definitely on the mend, but I'm not holding my breath as I've said that before. The good thing is that although its made me feel urgh and there have been a few tough things to deal with at the same time, there's been a little spark of positivity glinting away underneath it all. Its been a quiet one this year, very relaxed - so not too much eaten and even a bit of exercise done. I'm going to be ready to pick up where I left off and continue on my MSE journey very soon.
