Do not guarantor - under any circumstances. If they haven't got a guarantor - and it is part of the requirements - then this is not a done deal. I would message them back immediately and tell them I refuse to be guarantor, and son will not be moving in. If you do this now with plenty of time - i cant see the issue.
Son find somewhere else to live.
Even in regular circumstances, a parent can end up unwittingly guarantor for everyone in the house - it is a minefield. I would never guarantor for anyone again, even if it was one of my kids - as estate agents can attempt every intimidation tactic in the book, when it comes to students
My son and three friends signed up to a house approx. six months in advance of needing it. In that six months, two of the four had dropped out of University.....
