@Sun_Addict I've got two generations of the screw-top Starry coffee purveyors' stainless steel double skin beakers - the first is stainless inside and out, the second is green, outside. Both extremely battered and dented from being dropped and falling off the finial post at the top of the stairs (whoops) - the stainless for hot drinks, the green for cold water. I can confidently say they are over ten years old and both still work. Remnants of the "I can't resist..." phase when I first thought I was being frugal, they have actually proved their worth and a quick check confirms they still sell the 16floz I bought but also a 12floz (sorry it's not metric, it's USA). Not the cheapest, but sometimes you gets what you pays for!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Hello Friday Frugalistas,
Thanks for your suggestions for travel mugs. I will probably buy for Mr F one of the tall Thermos beakers, as he used to own one & took it pretty much everywhere, until it met with its final mishap rolling out of the car door into the road) & was always singing its praises, especially how hot it kept his coffee. He has really only not bought another one because they have increased in price quite a lot since his last one.
Busy morning but have settled into leisure activities this afternoon. Budget-helping bits & bobs as follows:
*Cleaned the house between us - usual minimal products & washable cloths.
*Quick trip into town so free parking on supermarket car park. Finished the grocery shopping as there were a few gaps on the shelves & short-dated items last night. Updated grocery budget.
*Our local market butcher had a cracking mix & match offer - 5 packs for £20. We needed chicken pieces for tomorrow night plus some bacon, but as both these were in the offer, we decided to stock up the freezer with the other 3 packs, including a large tray of racks of bacon ribs. The smallest one will be perfect for a slow cooker batch of lentil & bacon soup, the others will provide several meals, I should think.
*Did 4 surveys.
*Entered a competition.
*Wrapped 1 present.
*Washed out a bag for life to keep it in use a bit longer & pegged it out to dry.
*Shawl knitting. As this lovely kit was a Christmas gift from my sister last Christmas, I really would love to be wearing it for the festivities this year. I am also in 'use-it-up' & 'finishing off' mode where both products & projects are concerned.
Talked some more with Mr F about our planned budget challenge for next year. He is incredibly up for the idea, decided this project needs a code name & then promptly suggested one, which made me smile. Right, time to shut out the dark.....I don't mind the dark actually, but it does keep the warmth in.......& to pick up my shawl again for some serious knitting. I shall have to switch to sock knitting if we are to watch anything with subtitles later, but I really do want to be wearing it asap.
Enjoy your evenings all,

Thank you for the recommendations @Debsnewbudget and @Suffolk_lass. Mr SA has a c0st@ one which keeps his drink hot for some time but I’m not sure the lid wouldn’t leak if it was in a bag being carried to work.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

@KajiKita & @Sun_Addict - Well, I think that may well wait until the new year. It's a 2025 project after all ;-)

Morning Peeps,
been busy recycling some money this week via the use of the bay. Items would cost more in a charity shop so its a win win here. I am gifting to the CS places too so there is plenty to go round.
Food wise the little slow cooker pot is now on the side. UU the last of meat from the freezer it was intended to be a lamb casserole but ended up being made into curry. 5 portions dined on and one into the freezer. There is a copious amount of fruit still in both freezers so that needs reducing down in the next couple of days into a pie of sorts me thinks. Bread that was purchased via TGTG is now coming to an end as I am looking to me not consuming it much longer as am working on changing eating habits. I am in the throws of consuming between us the UPF and being smarter with our food purchases.
Must dash got to do some freezer diving and sorting need to get wrapped up for this.
