Our local authority does the same as yours. It makes it so difficult for people trying to sort out their budgets. I think we should get at least a calendar month's notice, so we find out our payment schedule before the 1st March.EssexHebridean said:OBL I also can't do the new annual budget until those figures are in. If past experience is anything to go by the water one will be fairly soon - the CT however will be left by our local shower of you-know-what to the eleventh hour. Last year they ended up not being able to take a lot of people's first payment of the year on the regular date as they hadn't given enough notice! Ours was the 15th and we were only just OK!Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

No post today.....some useful stuff, but then wasted all afternoon with my HMRC problem, which I thought was resolved but actually turns out not to be as have been asked for verification material I do not have. This is an ongoing saga which I had thought to share once resolved, so I am not looking for suggestions.I consider that sufficient verified info has been already been provided (10 months ago) & have instead escalated my complaint Have written a 'Level 5 Foxgloves Assertiveness' letter & am just trotting off to post it.
F2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!11 -
No, surely not HMRC being dire 😁

Urgh, sorry to hear your HMRC woes 🙄 We have been trying to sort out an ongoing issue for Mr Cheery. We were told we had to write, which we did. It took NINE MONTHS to get a response - asking for obscure documents within 4 weeks 🙄which bizarrely I did actually manage to find (or ways to prove the same thing). Now it's been 3 months since we posted that letter, so I suppose we'll just have to wait another six for a response 🙄😂 He'll have his state pension before we get it sorted out and it will all be moot anyway, so you do have my sympathies!8

I'm surprised there wasn't a riot 😀foxgloves said:Thanks for all your contributions. Will post properly tomorrow as time has got away from me today.
Soot agrees. He says to tell you he didn't get his 3pm treats until 4.45! This is a massive deal for him!

My water bill always takes ages and it really annoys me. The council tax is also one that is close to the bone .I normally get a letter In January about my rent going up in April so plenty of notice . I can't remember when it arrived last year thoughEssexHebridean said:OBL I also can't do the new annual budget until those figures are in. I was curious so I looked at mine & the water bills are dated 31st Jan & the last 4 council tax bills all dated 8th March although I am sure one at least didn't actually arrive to right near the end of March.

My sympathy with the HMRC situation as we have an ongoing appeal here which is well over a year now. The latest update is that it has now gone to the wrong department - you couldn’t make it up! It must be a desperately awful place to work with all the backlogs and errors going on. There is something very dispiriting about having to hang on the phone to them (with the ever present possibility of being cut off) knowing full well that there will not be a resolution this time either. I hope your letter of complaint gets some positive result.Council tax statements arrive mid March for us. Last year was dated the 9th March but obviously it only arrives a few days later. The one thing we can be sure of is that it will be increased by the maximum amount that they are permitted. The lack of notice is ridiculous and very disrespectful to we residents who are trying to manage our own budgets.6
