Resourcefulness: The budgeter's friend

Happy new diary! I love the concept of resourcefulness and have learnt so much from you over the years and here for yet more inspiration - I have been known to say "What would Foxgloves do?" For Christmas I was gifted (by Santa aka me - Santa buys each person one gift and then any others are from friends/family, started this when Matthew was young as I wanted him to be aware of others less fortunate and also made him consider what he'd really like from Santa, Santa can't buy everything for everyone - he's 19 and I dont think we've done a bad job - he's very money savvy but also very thoughtful too) the two Nancy Birtwhistle books and have also been heard to say "What would Nancy do?" and am looking forward to decluttering under our sink and all its products and becoming much more minimal.
The New Year didn't start well as our washing machine packed up so the kitchen is looking very minimal todaybut managed to find one £10 more expensive but with free delivery (as opposed to £270 + £40 delivery), went through Topcashback, collected Nectar Points and its also tracking for cashback through Airtime Rewards so feel quite pleased with myself that just taking time and sleeping on the decision I'll recoup the £10 and more.
One other shock for today came in the form of Cat Food - in Nov I bought a box for £37.99, that same box is now £54.99!!!!! After a bit of searching have found it at A$da for just a little more than Novs price
Had a quick look at one of my charts and I managed to hustle £1000 last year through cashback and selling a few bits, so this year I'm aiming for the same. I've also re-evaluated what apps/sites I use to make sure they are worth my time and effort. I feel that by using a bit of this downtime between Christmas and New Year has really motivated me to make this year the year I am "Happier and Healthier".
This is the most Ive ever spoken I think, take care my lovely, best wishes to you and yours and here for a great 2023

Ooh - I am definitely back following. The little money saving ideas derived from being resourceful are my favourite ones. As you say, everyone’s budgets are impacted so it’s great to have a little community on here to share around ideas.
I was thinking of you earlier when I made a big batch of garlic flatbreads for the freezer as I inadvertently had too much yogurt and didn’t want it to go to waste.2025 decluttering: 1,999🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🏅🌟🏅💐

Happy New Year and congratulations on the new diary. I am another lurker from your old diary and looking forward to following your new one. I'm the same age as you but in Australia and the issues of rising inflation, interest rates and energy bills are just the same here so "resourcefulness" is definitely the way forward in 2023.10

A note re-eggs : try the float test. If an egg pops to the top when placed in a bowl of water, the egg is no good. But if it sinks, the fresher it is. Half way is okay for eating. Something to do with the air space in the egg.12

Happy New Year to you Foxgloves, from another person emerging from Lurkdom. I really enjoyed your previous diary so I am looking forward to following your new diary. Like yourselves we don’t have any debt, however, we have moved onto a very limited income and will have to really make the most of the resources we do have. This will include the resurrection of our vegetable garden and replacing some of our aged fruit bushes. I also love to cook, read, knit, crochet and sew and this, together with walking, makes me quite cheap to entertain. I ended up getting demoralised and ditched my budget late last year when everything went up so much that all my previous figures seemed like so much pie in the sky. I have got my head around this now; it’s obviously here to stay after all! Thank you for all the inspiration over the last few years. I always think of you when I am “shopping from home” 😊12

That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.
happiness isn't achieved by getting extra things,
but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy9
