Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Thread part 18
Comments
-
After an embarrassingly late start, I am finally out of the blocks after a Friday night AF.
I can totally relate to other comments about struggling to gain control. I am finding I am giving way to much thought to thinking about drinking, trying to avoid it, giving up on trying, worrying about my health and long term implications - but using it to manage home stresses. I'm on a hamster wheel
1/15 please Cathy.Live for the moment and plan for the future4 -

Hi CuppaTea, I can totally relate to the hamster wheel of scary thoughts. Wanting alcohol, what is my drinking doing to my body and my health, which days can I drink, can I bear to get through this evening without a drink. Thank you for recommending the Drink Less app, I started using it because of you and I really like the dashboard showing me units, calories, money spent and AF days in green - 11 green days since you recommended it - thank you! It is much better than the Try Dry app which didn't add up units or money correctly
What went badly for me last week:
OH helped me by buying and putting putting cold wine in the fridge - I succumbed
I tried to drown self-pitying thoughts about my evening being affected by three friends having health issues
I got home tired and hungry and thirsty after a planned trip to take my Dad to hospital and then drank when I got in
What helped last week
AF cider is nicer than I expected
Eating dinner earlier
Hot chocolate

Thank you for welcoming me to the thread.
I downloaded the recommended Drink Less app, and was quite shocked by my results after filling in the questionnaire. It seems I am just into the top 20% sector of alcohol consumption for my age group, so I definitely need to drink less, as I can’t really bring myself to give up completely. I can actually manage many days or even weeks of not drinking at all, but then we go away to France or Italy, and it’s just so tempting to drink every day. Does this pattern sound familiar?5 -
Welcome to the thread, Tiddles - yes, being on holiday in beautiful places always spells “wine” to me. I will be doing just that (going on holiday) later this month and may not make my target as a result. But holidays are not what I worry about, it is (as others have said) everyday life where I have to really work to not drink, especially if something stressful happens. At any rate, 4/10 for me thank you @cathybird
it is nice to have had a hard time lately, come on this board to talk about it, and still stick around. It is life-changing really.4 -
I came back from holiday on Monday and have struggled to start again with AF days. However, success tonight so that will be 2/24 please. As I have missed more days than intended at the start of the month I may not make target but am hoping to continue with a run of AFDs for a while anyway.Welcome to new members and good luck with reaching targets too.2
