Also another who had an alc’ free NYE. Finished December on 27/24, thank you cathybird.I’m not sure about a yearly total, I just seem to do better with a monthly target. Counting back I had 346 AF days in 2022. This was on the back of 351 AF days in 2021 and 350 (I think) AF days in 2020, both of those years of course saw greatly reduced scope for social events for big chunks of the time. Anything north of 340 AF days is about my limit realistically without giving up drinking entirely.Just as important to me as the bare number of AF days is the secondary effect that if I am drinking now, it is almost always very restrained and limited usually to literally just two or three drinks. I was trying to think of the last time I got ‘falling-over drunk’ and I think I’d have to go back a good number of years. Has anyone else found that reducing the number of drinking occasions has seen a parallel effect of lessening the tendency to drink too much?
One thing I do know for sure is that these threads have been completely invaluable in massively cutting down on my drinking. Thank you so much as always cathybird for keeping score for us. Genuinely this thread keeps me accountable and I couldn’t have got to this stage without you. Thank you.6 -

Happy new year (and shiny new thread) everyone,
HB, lovely that you've dropped in I for one have really missed your input and wise words. Having had a few glasses of alcohol and the reasons you gave made me think that if it was only a couple of times per year then this is acceptable. The danger is that the 3 or 4 times a year morphs into once a month etc.I know I still find cutting back an absolute challenge, but that's me. However you are very obviously in a different place in your life and have been sober for such a long time. Why don't you monitor this thread to help with any decisions you decide to make about alcohol? Very selfish on my part as you were an absolute font of knowledge about this subject, and always willing to share your thoughts.
1 please Cathy, thanks again for running the thread. Xxxx
