  • Unfortunately not everybody can afford M&S prices

I've used all the major supermarket delivery services and Ocado have actually worked out to be the cheapest. The reason for this is they keep offering me 20% off all food (not alcohol) purchases, free delivery and when you check out they offer you flash sale items for half price which are not normally on offer. Ocado prices in the main are certainly not more than 20% higher than other supermarkets (even aldi and lidl) and for most common items are normally on a par. Ocado delivery drivers are unfailing polite, so it's a big thumbs up from me as well.
I couldn't agree more, cmthephoenix. Ocado is not only the best food ( and other ) products' deliverer in the country but I never find prices any higher than any other online supermarket----------due to Ocado's amazing efficiency.

I had a very positive (lucky) experience at Christmas. They had their Christmas Clearance running, and as I had a late Christmas dinner with family booked, I ordered a big piece of slow cooked beef called 'The General' - reduced from £50 to £25. That in itself would have been very fair value:

When delivery day came, the message came through to say that my piece of beef had been substituted for a Hawksmoor 35 Day Dry-Aged Prime Rib (2.5kg) which I know was going to be expensive.

I checked the web - and this piece of beef was £112. I know that Ocado match the percentage discount for unavailable items - so was expecting it to be £61 - far more than the £25 for 'The General'.

Then I opened my receipt - and this is what I was charged:

    £4.17!

When the driver delivered - I said that something didn't seem right - and couldn't even believe that it would be in amongst my shopping - but there it was. 2.5kg of Hawksmoor beef rib for £4.17! He said not to worry about it - if I was happy with what I'd been charged - otherwise he could take it back and refund it. It's usually my luck that I miss out on offers - or get substituted something rubbish - so I'm guessing as it was Christmas ish - they had a policy in place of not letting customers down knowing there'd be some big family meals going on. It would definitely have been a bit of a family let-down if it had been substituted for a pack of 4 burgers.  The rib was very much enjoyed.

That aspect of cost was not the "subject of the thread" at all. The O/P was just praising all aspects of Ocado and I don't think he even mentioned prices. However, the question of costs has been touched upon by GrubbyGirl ( though she was moaning about M&S , when Ocado do a lot of their own brands and others) and now you. It has been fully covered. On this page alone you will see several posts which praise Ocado's prices. Even the last post above from cymruchris was about a really amazing bargain .You need to read the pages of a thread before jumping in.

I had read the thread and my response was to the poster jumping in stating "not everybody can afford M&S prices" in a thread where Ocado is the subject not M&S. That very much seemed a comment unrelated to the rest of the discussion.

I expect some people shop at Ocado for Ocado prices and praise Ocado service as you say and it has nothing to do with M&S prices. As you say other posts are about bargains and praise for Ocado but then GrubbyGirl jumped in commenting about M&S which is not relevant.
