Help re One4All/Tesco gift card

I purchased 3 "Active Favourites" One4All gift cards from a Tesco in England for my nephews' Christmas presents, they tried to spend them in JD Sports and were told they can only be used in the Irish JD Sports? I contacted Tesco who told me I have to take it up with One4All but my argument to Tesco is that I purchased them in good faith from them with no mention of them only being for use in Ireland?! I think this is madness, if I bought a faulty electrical product for example I'd return it to Tesco not the manufacturer and why would they be selling Irish gift cards without letting people know?! I've emailed One4All but had no response, can anyone help with where my rights stand on this please? I spent £80 and currently my nephews can't use their gifts 😔
Thank you 🙏
Thank you 🙏

What does the blurb/packaging that came with the gift cards say about where they can be spent?1

Just had a look at the One4all website and JD Sports is not one of the stores that you can use these cards at. I suspect the card you bought is usable at any of the stores that are listed, if this was an Irish card it’s value would be in Euros not Pounds.1

OP - were you aware that your nephews wanted to spend their xmas gift at JD Sports?
Can they find an alternative similar shop that accepts One4all cards?
I know it's too late now but it may be worth remembering this advice from the main MSE webaite:
Gift cards and vouchers - what to do if a retailer goes bust - MSE (moneysavingexpert.com)
I appreciate that it's unlikely that the 169 retailers will go bust but the link gives reasons why gift cards are not a great idea (points 2 & 3):We're not generally fans of gift cards and vouchers. There are three main reasons why:
- If the shop goes bust, they can become worthless and there’s little recourse. So if you get them don’t hold them for long – and make sure it’s a big solid, reputable store, or one you can use at multiple stores.
- Often they have dates (sometimes hidden) by which they need to be used.
- Cash is far more flexible. It has no expiry date and you can use it anywhere.

Can't see anything about Ireland there - are you sure this is not just a misunderstanding by the store ?
Anyway, follow this complaints procedure - they are also regulated by the FCA. Make sure they understand you are making an official complaint.

Thanks for all your replies, the cards have JD Sports on the front (photos attached) and the terms on the back of the card and the packaging mention nothing about Ireland

Did your relatives talk to the manager of the store?
Definitely follow their complaints procedure.1 -

MPORTANT NOTE TO CUSTOMERS: JD Sports and Go Outdoors are currently unable to accept Active Favourites due to payment processor technical issues. Your patience at this time is appreciated while work is carried out to rectify this.

The get out clause - "....... Retailers is subject to change and it's your responsibility to check the Website ...... " where the above re JD would have been found.0

Surely there is a "good faith" element here? When purchasing a gift card from the store is anyone realistically going to stand and check the full terms and conditions on the website before they buy? As for the above re JD Sports, where does it have that as it's not clear just from the home page?
I just think the whole thing is extremely unfair and I'm asking for advice on who I should be taking it up with, One4All or Tesco? My nephews wanted to pool the cards with others they've got for JD and should be able to.0
