My Mum and D met at a social club when I was five. Mum had three children, he didn't have any and wasn't ready to settle down with us children. Mum met someone else, got married. Was together for twenty years then he died (step father M). Year later, Mum went back to the social club, D had just split up from his long term girl friend, met D. They were together for 25 years. D died earlier this year. Mum said that when they met the second time, he flung his arms open, she embraced him and it was like coming home. Two love birds that should have never been apart. They were the love of each other's life. Two hearts that beat as one.

Ooo I have just bought a 95% wool, 5% cashmere poncho - just under 50% in the sale. I couldn't buy the wool for this price. (£198 down to £98) How many coupons is it? I'm borrowing them from DH.

@Gem-gem, that's a lovely classic piece - not sure if it counts as a jacket, a blanket or the weight of wool.

Marry Christmas, fashion on the rationers.  Hope a lovely time was had by all.

I bought 4 pairs of leggings before Xmas, so that's another 8 coupons.  So that's a grand total of 75 for the year for me, and as I had 81 I can carry over 6

Ooh, off to a flying start for spending fewer coupons in 2024! Mr E and I went and spent the afternoon of Boxing Day retrieving the path at his old house so his ex-wife can get in and out of the house safely (mobility/sight issues), and amongst other things, collected a pile of stuff for charity donation/the tip.... including a huge length of loosely-woven fabric bought for making curtains but untouched... I've done a burn test, and then hot-washed it to tighten up the weave, and it appears to be 100% pure linen, and it is a fabulously-opulent deep rich red! Lovely! 
I plan a pinafore dress, to wear over thin wool jumpers in winter, over short-sleeved blouses or under cardis in autumn, and on its own over bare arms in summer  
I have seven or so metres of it and it's at least 60 inches wide, of not a bit more Hurrah!

I've been thinking what I am likely to need over the coming year, and have come to the conclusion that it will be underwear and shoes.  Makes shopping easier, I suppose, but not very exciting, is it?  Hey-ho!

I have half a dozen pairs now of shorts in light fluttery viscose which I wear as knickers- and one very comfortable pair in cotton (thankyou, Sainsbury's shorts-pyjamas!) which I plan to lift a pattern from, as last year I bought linen for making undies but haven't yet used it- I am determined to USE the fabric I have, time for me to get sewing!

I wonder how many years it's been 1942?

I'm looking forward to our further adventures - and perhaps this year I'll make something more of the Athletics Club, which I admit has been shamefully neglected of late.

I will be carrying my last few coupons over (unless I remember something I spent them on), and possibly taking into account any left from last year, as though spent at the beginning of this year, thus meaning I've spent fewer of this year's than it seems, if you see what I mean. The reason for this is mostly that I'm more selfish than others, but I also intend to get the sewing machine out, and while I'm sure I'll find second hand fabrics (oi! I saw the parachute first!), I want to get to the exalted heights of buying for my finally-flourishing skills. I live in hope.
