Sons student rental - disaster pending

Well on the plus side it seems you can guarantor insurance which, in my mind, is a no brainer. £100 or so and it basically restricts you're liability to your share (which is fair enough).
I do wonder how many parent sign up without thinking. I know it probably won't go wrong but the potential hassle is huge.1 -
So the lease is signed. Starts July. Is there any way to get out of it now?
I expect this is not an uncommon thing but surely this far in advance, things change, kids leave college, friendships/relationships breakdown. As has happened in sons case.
I told him many times to think very carefully about whether doing this was a good idea but they've all gone steaming in and not thought about it. More annoying is they've split up literally 5 days after signing this lease!
I mean come on guys, lets think ahead more than the next day, and think about what you're signing.....
Quite possible that son won't want to go ahead with this lease. Is considering switching Unis. A massive mess to sort out this is.0 -
I signed - I did of course think of the mess it could cause but it didn't.
to be fair, you can live with anyone as a student and have a falling out at any time, relationships/friendships change frequently. There were six in my daughters house one year, two left, two new ones came in. Then one of them left but carried on paying the rent. Three of them live together in a different city while working now.
It's a good time to practice letting go of the ropes a bit(I mean this kindly, it's so hard as a parent, especially when you're still 'responsible' financially).
They usually find a way to muddle through (while us parents continue to worry)I have on various occasions in the past sat down and explained how in practical terms my daughters decisions affect us - seemed to work as sometimes they have no idea 😁1 -
I signed
I would never guarantor againWith love, POSR0 -

So, as long as your son and the other tenants find someone else to take the room, then the new contract with the new tenant will supersede the old one that your son signed.1 -

Hes a good lad whos done really well but he does have Aspergers. He had a really difficult time a few years ago but has made huge progress.
Alas, I still do need to keep an eye on him because he tends to be a bit impulsive and not think things through.0 -
Well things have escalated...... I never did sign as guarantor (luckily!) despite almost daily emails for the estate agent.
Apparently, 3 of the parents did though.
Well, not 3 of the girls (inc of course sons GF) have decided they don't want to share a house any more. I had a feeling this may happen.
Son has contacted estate agent who, of course, have said, sorry you all signed the lease, you will need to find replacements or we won't release you. At the moment, the 3 girls think they can just walk away apparently.
Funnily enough, 2 of the 3 guarantors are parents of these girls. Oh dear oh dear......
Its a complete mess. I've told him to tell them they need to get replacements - speak to estate agent if they don't believe him and for him to hang tight and see what happens.
Hes now said he wants to stay in Halls now. Arghhhh! We said this in the first place.
I'm hoping Estate Agent will release them since only half have guarantors. Then again they might be thinking not our problem we'll chase these three.

As I mentioned, hes got Aspergers too which doesn't help his thought process for things like this.0
