Heya
I have a system boiler in my house (combi + Indirect unvented hot water cylinder).
For a while now, ive simply had my hot water cylinder switched off at the wall. Ive still recieved hot water and the heating works.
Im just wondering though, are their ramifications for having the water cylinder switched off? Would it reduce the effectiveness of my central heating?

The switch on the wall is the alternative electric method of heating the water when the gas boiler is not being used. It is quite normal to leave it switched off, I have switched mine on once in the past several years and that was only for a couple of hours when we came home from a week away in October and threw everything at heating the house and water.

The 'hot water cylinder switch' controls a 3kW immersion heater which will use a lot of electricity if you leave it switched on. Think of it as an emergency back-up if your gas boiler fails. And if you're paranoid like me, check often that it's switched off!3 bed det. built 2021. 2 occupants at home all day. Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i combi boiler heating to 19-20C from 6am to midnight, setback to 17.5C overnight, connected in EMS mode to Tado smart modulating thermostat. Annual gas usage 6000kWh; electricity 2000kWh.0

Its back up only.
Remember that if you set your boiler flow temp below 60c and the hot water tank is set at 60c the will always be a demand for heat from the tank stat.0 -
How does that work, a combi boiler but a hot water cylinder as well? Or is the direct hot water function just not used in this case.

I don't know if it's an industry wide term but when we bought our boiler the "system" model had circulating pump and pressure vessel integrated in the boiler. I don't see any technical reason why that shouldn't also be a combi.

Its either a system or a combi, It can't be both, And as the is an Indirect unvented hot water cylinder It must be a system1

Now the money saving part of me wants to know if there's a timer for the water heating and what temperature the tank is set to.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
