Hi Please can anyone tell if British Gas Rewards are still doing their FREE days loyalty Scheme I checked my account and it does state I get 100 FREE days Gas & Electric but again this year it tells me I saved exactly the same as last year £76 and the year before ect. I have never seen this on my bill and assume its done at source but noticed this year I had no offers or savings so has it stopped would of been nice to be informed. I have been with British Gas for best part of 30 years on duel fuel and have my Home Care package with them as well so stayed loyal throughout. However there have been a number of things that I feel were not up to standard in service and care but I stayed believing I was doing very well with all my FREE days energy. The worse issue I had was when Smart Meters were coming in I keenly applied an interest to join which I did many times and I even rang them but because I had an old Electricity Board it could not be done as it was not compatible. Strange but one day many years later and out of the blue came a cold call from British Gas offering a Smart Meter and I explained what I had been told but was assured I could still have one but they will need to update my current board for FREE of charge. I was delighted to say the least but on going through the process with the representative. he pointed out I had two accounts standard electric and Ecommony 7 night time tariff, I did laugh and said yes some 25 years ago but its only a standard tariff now. He then went on to tell me I was being charged two standing charges for both which are currently at £30 each so by cancelling the Ecommony 7 would be a saving straight the way, I again laughed and pointed out that I notice over 20 years ago I was paying for two standing charges and British Gas recalculated the usage and even repaid me £30 what I had over paid during that time. I was informed the meter reader would still take two reading but they would be recalculated to a stardard traiff. They even sent me a print out of the recalculations back then and the £30 over payment so all seemed in order. The British Gas Representative assured me that this had not be done and i have continually paid two standing charges throughout. He said he would look into it and as a good will gesture would credit me one months standing charge, I however refused as it appears after I myself cancelled everything some 20 years before money has been taken that is not theirs and I would appreciate it back with compensation and £30 to me does not go anywhere near to what I have lost. He said there was nothing on his computer as it was so long ago and after considerable conversation he offered £1200 to which I again declined as a proper calculation needed to be carried out in order to ascertain what I had been overcharged. He accepted my views but need to speak to a higher management and would ring back in a few days which he did I am please to say. He then advised me after considerable efforts on their part they have been unable to locate any correspondence or records on their systems as it does go back so long and they are only required to hold information a certain amount of years. I said I appreciate that but I was currently off work with a bad back or I would have gone up to the attic and got the relevant paperwork down and I could of emailed him to help refresh their memory, but if he is able to keep the file open I would be happy to get back to him. I then said I was surprised they do not have an archive for this very situation, within seconds he replied I've found it Mr Bridges you did cancel it he did give the date I think was 1999 but would have to check our chat feeds and YES I still do have everything. He then went to talk to a Manager and returned and said this is what they are going to do, he was full of apology and would credit my bank account by £1000 and also credit my Electric Account by a further £200 while they recalculate my account to work out how much they owe, but this would take time and to bear with them. A week later as promised monies were paid then I waited and waited and now we are many years ahead still waiting so I am very disappointed and I do feel out of pocket by how much is not known and I am guessing someone their end thought the £1200 was enough its simply is not right.
I apologise I have turned a simple question into war and peace but does anyone know if Rewards is still active considering the price increases and my 100 days FREE Gas & Electric should reduce my yearly bill by a third or do they and it would be the final straw the above winds me up so much to be honest. On a positive note I do have a smart meter now.

Couple of really helpful post Christmas booze comments above .
I don't know if this will help but as you started off with loyalty days like all things you need to take a copy of the terms and conditions at the time and keep them safe for when you need to challenge.
May or may not help

As for your other issue, sounds like you have the paperwork and correspondence going back to the issue point and so do British gas. Next thing to do is raise a complaint and then off to the ombudsman.

yes. i can't really help about the loyalty points. if it says on your account you get them then i would recommend taking a screen shot and emailing them to ask about it and when they are or how there shown on your bill.
about the over billing. the first question is how long ago was the £1200 given to you (you say its been years and years while you were waiting for them to do something) and do you have any records or proof of what was agreed/the money was for (they might argue they offered it as full compensation for the historic mistake).
then the second question is has the problem been sorted from that point on or are you still paying two standing charges? (what you pay should be on your bill. so the first thing would be to check your latest bill and see if you have been charged two lots of standing charge the hole time).
once you know that then you can work out your next steps.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
