Had a tesco delivery yesterday which came to £49.98 and as one of the bags of peppers was open (with one or two missing), I got a refund of £1.20 which is being processed and two huge orange peppers for free.I have also spent £19.60 with milk and more this week. So a total of £68.38 so far.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'8

A bit late to the party here, because I'm still not sure what my target should be for January; one of the festive invasions had to be postponed until mid-month due to colds and cancelled ferries, so there's that to cater for, and DD1 & BF's movements are as yet unknown, as his mother may well be retreating to Tenerife for the rest of the winter (jealous!) in which case they'll live at hers for most of the month, otherwise it's the mixture as before, with her here most of the time and him for 3 or 4 days out of 7. As against that, DS3 heads off back Up North tomorrow, and the freezer's stuffed to the gunwhales with leftover turkey, ham & Halloumi nut roast, so we can "coast" for some of the time. Yesterday was actually payday, but everything bought then & this morning belongs to the Festive Fund. So anyway, I'll aim for a cautious

First weekly shop of the month done today -
£29 / £200.
I’ve been diagnosed coeliac for 12 years, but it was only last month that I learnt I can get staple food on prescription, free in Northern Ireland. I need to put my 2nd prescription in, and will be getting 6 loaves of sandwich bread, and 1kg of pasta. Will need to take a look at what else is available - think they also do different types of bread, and also flour. When a gluten free loaf of the same brand can cost up to £3.50 in the supermarket, it makes sense to use the help that’s available, especially now.‘When you only have two pennies left in the world, spend one on bread and the other on flowers. Just spent £29 in coop, but they had lots of yellow stickers so I bought most of it (they were ready meals, and as my husband may, fingers crossed, be having major surgery next year - this means there will be easy meals for my teenagers should I be busy.I am not going to feel guilty if they have one - food is food.I need to sort my freezers out actually but not right now, a job for another day 🤣Widowed November 2024

Hi and Happy New Grocery Challenge year
I've decided to start doing a 'normal' calendar month now.
Whatever I've spent for December or the year , is what it is.
I'm going to keep to the £120 budget as DD2 is super busy at uni this term, and has no holidays until April, so won't be able to stay for longer than an overnight visit til then. So, it will be mainly me here til then with the occasional visit from DD1 or overnight stay from GD. Hopefully I can manage to just potter along feeding myself.
I still have huge amounts of dried goods ( rice, grains, beans, legumes etc), so ideally I should only need the odd accompaniment/ fresh item when shopping. I'm making my own bread and following The Starch Solution (loosely), so have really cut down on the amount of sweets, biscuits and cake I am eating. So only buy/ make them now for visitors. I want to commit to this properly this coming year.
Good Luck all and may the grocery gods be in your favour.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £44.54/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. I’m reporting in with an annual budget of £5200.
same budget I’ve had for the last few years..
it’s much more difficult than it was but I’m now used to being more creative and can stretch the pennies further than I used to.
our budget includes food toiletries and cleaning/washing supplies for 6 adults.
my cupboards, freezer and fridge are fully stocked and I’m spending the afternoon meal planning January.11 -
